Playing Demon?s Souls makes me a boring person.

I've been playing the game. A lot. And I love it. A lot. The other night I spent hours with it, and in those hours, all I did was farm the same sections again and again, futz around with my gear, gain a few soul levels, and kill one Vanguard demon - and I killed him by shooting about fifty arrows into his forehead while he just stood there scratching himself.

If you?d been sitting there watching me, you would have been screamingly, knuckle-suckingly bored. In fact, my wife kept walking by and asking, ?Weren?t you here before? Didn?t you kill that thing before? Didn?t you kill all those things?? Yessiree I did, but they didn?t drop the large sharpstone I need for my +5 Falchion. And so I?ve gotta kill ?em again.

It's more positive than it sounds at first.

I still can't kill that damn Flamelurker. :argh:

Put up water veil before fighting him, that'll weaken his fire damage. He's very weak against magic, if you're going to melee, lose the shield it's of no help (none of his attacks can be parried), two hand wield a weapon with magic damage. If you're going to use magic, say soul arrow, hide behind the bones and stuff and try to fire off the odd shot.

Need to be patient with Flamelurker. You could do some other levels and come back later, but his soul is one of the most important in the game, unlocks the ability to get much better upgraded/end game weapons.

You can shortcut to him if you go right at the beginning of the level and drop down the small quarry like area - It's quite tricky though unless you know where to walk off the ledges. If you're playing online, there is usually player messages on the ground at the right parts.

Lots of videos on YouTube

You could also just put down the co-op stone and get some help killing him.

Going to finally get my platinum over the next week. Still hugely disappointing to see so little of Neowin play/buy my GOTY :p A truly awesome new IP in a sea of sequels and rehashed genres.

You don't see anyone playing my GOTY either Gavin, just have to realise we have a unique taste in niche games :p

Which is what exactly? :p Arma 2?

I've already accepted that but I hold hope if I don't shut my yob I can drag one or two people away from gushing over their GOTY in MW2/Halo ODST or some other hugely popular game.

Just killed the SoB this weekend. :D

That purple flame shield helped a lot too.

Next is that damn Maneater. :p

Maybe I should start playing this again, never really looked into it too much played to the first boss and killed him. Didn't look into the whole levelling skills etc and as the manual was all foreign I should really have looked online for more on the mechanics of the game.

Maneater can be a bitch, possibly the hardest boss in the game.

Everything you need to know on the wiki.

Making it easier for Xmas? They made it harder on Halloween.

Looks like I'm finally getting my platinum

Demon's Souls' Pure White Christmas Starts Today

Adventuring in the kingdom of Boletaria is going to be just a little bit easier this week, as PlayStation 3 role-playing game Demon's Souls switches to "Pure White World Tendency" today in recognition of the Winter Solstice. Wuzzat, you say? Well, if you play Demon's Souls casually, oblivious or indifferent to the game world's "tendency," a Pure Black or Pure White setting has an effect on many things in the game. Enemy strength, availability of certain items and luck of the drop are all affected by tendency, a setting that can be manipulated by certain world events.

But Atlus is forcing a change to the world to Pure White for the next week?similar to the Pure Black World Tendency event that hit this Halloween?something that's not easy to do by oneself. The online game server goes white right about now, specifically at noon Pacific Time and ends next Monday, December 28, also at noon Pacific Time.

What does pure white world tendency get you? Lots of stuff, including non-player characters that wouldn't normally appear, access to certain portions of the map, all kinds of stuff! In fact, you can't get certain PlayStation Trophies without a Pure White World Tendency in effect. The unofficial Demon's Souls wiki has a handy explanation of what's different.

OK, quick question. I'm currently watching a DS auction for the American version with the art book and the soundtrack CD. It's currently at ?31, and it ends at 11PM on New Year's Eve. What do you reckon is the absolute maximum price to go on this? I'm thinking ?60.

BTW, this auction is in the UK. The guy who is selling it imported it from Canada, and is "selling due to nearly throwing the pad out the window on many occasions". :p

Is this worth it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PS3-DEMONS-SOULS-W-A...#ht_2010wt_1165

I want to pick the game up but not sure if I should put down the extra cash and get this version? How hard is this game is it fair and a test of skill or does it pull cheap tricks on you?

Forget about that auction, try this one. I'm currently watching it, but it looks like it's gonna go above what I'm willing to pay for it.

I just looked at the bookmark I saved for where I was gonna buy the game, but they've sold out of them now, so it's not there.

Cheers for that auction link. I will see how high it goes and I might be lucky with it.

    • To give context to everybody, I bought about 2 sets of RAM, ddr4, 3200, 64 gb, 2 years ago. It costed me 150 usd for each set. If you buy RAM now you only incentivate companies to sell you expensive stuff, as Nvidia did.
    • KillerPDF 1.4.2 by Razvan Serea KillerPDF is a lightweight, portable PDF editor for Windows built for users who want full control without subscriptions, installers, or telemetry. It runs as a single executable, making it ideal for USB use and field work. You can view PDFs with smooth PDFium rendering, navigate quickly with thumbnails, zoom, and shortcuts, and reorganize pages using drag-and-drop. It supports merging multiple PDFs, splitting documents, and extracting selected pages. KillerPDF also allows inline text editing with font matching to preserve the original layout, plus annotations like text boxes, freehand drawing, highlights, and reusable signatures. You can search full text, copy content easily, and print documents with flattened annotations. Designed as a free and open alternative to bloated PDF tools, it works fully offline on Windows 10/11 x64. No runtimes install. Everything needed is inside the EXE (targets .NET Framework 4.8, which ships with every supported Windows release). KillerPDF key features: High-quality PDF rendering via PDFium Edit PDF text inline (double-click to modify text) Page thumbnails and fast navigation with zoom and shortcuts Merge multiple PDFs into one Split PDFs and extract selected pages Drag-and-drop page reordering Font matching to preserve original document appearance Text boxes for notes Freehand drawing tools Highlight overlays with adjustable color, size, opacity Undo actions and clear per-page annotations Create, draw, and save reusable signatures Click-to-place signatures anywhere Full-text search with highlighted results Drag-select or Ctrl+A to copy text Print with annotations flattened Portable single-file app (~10 MB) No installer, no admin rights required No account, no telemetry KillerPDF 1.4.2 changelog: What's new PDF form filling. Interactive PDF forms now render their fields (text inputs, checkboxes, radio buttons) as live controls. Fill them in directly and save — field values are written back into the PDF. PDF outline (bookmark) navigation. A new OUTLINES tab in the sidebar displays the document's bookmark tree. Click any entry to jump to that page. The sidebar auto-fits its width to the longest entry on open and can be dragged wider; switching back to PAGES snaps to the pages-mode width. Fixed Page rotation no longer reverts after saving. Rotations applied via the sidebar context menu now persist correctly through the save pipeline. Copied text words were out of order on PDFs where glyphs are stored in non-reading order (Issue #66). Text extraction now sorts words by position and uses a dynamic line-grouping threshold so both drag-select and Select All produce correctly ordered output. PDFs with malformed or non-standard XRef tables now open in read-only mode instead of showing "Invalid entry in XRef table" and failing entirely. • The very fact that a TPM (v2.0 specifically which is part of the issue I suspect) is now a baseline for any supported Windows installation will naturally mean other vendors will start to leverage it as they know it'll be there. It's called progress, and it's always been the way. A TPM isn't a windows thing, it's just a module designed to securely store keys. Secure boot isn't a Windows thing (although MS are the TCA as I recall hence the upheaval this year as the 2011 certs expire), it's just a way to verify a bootloader is signed. Windows simply leverages them.
