Codemasters reveals F1 game details

So you whine when they dont innovate and whine when they try to. Good job.

Hardly innovating, games have had media crap in them for years. I remember getting a football management sim that had a "talk to the media" feature, it was fun for the first few times then it got tedious and you just pressed random responses to get through it. Codemasters should concentrate on the racing parts more - safety cars during races for example, ability to tweak the cars just like you can in real life etc

Oh, you mean like they already added?

And I must be living under a rock, never played a game in my life that has any form of media interaction.

Regarding the talk-to-the-media feature: I agree with what - it's useless. The point of a F1 racing simulation is to spend time on track, not simulate the excruciatingly boring pit lane interviews and what not.

Also one should hope safety cars are in the game. It would be ridiculous not to have them.

As someone who enjoys the F1 sport, the media interaction is interesting if done correctly.

The whole point of that, is to improve your chance of gaining a seat in a better team etc..

Only if its done right, then it will be good. But if the same pre-determined options appear then it could be rather dull.

*fingers crossed* I'm super hyped for this game, as F1 is the only sport I really follow.

Same here. I've finally stopped caring about football. :) I do follow UFC from time to time, but not that often.

Boo :p

Yeah yeah, I know, but I'm too busy watching through The X-Files. Still got 2-and-a-bit seasons left (and a movie). After that, I'll finally get around to watching UFC 117. :p

I was looking forward to this game, until Isaw the gameplay video posted 2 pages ago. That turned me off. It just doesn't look like a sim, it looks like a casual racing game. Anybody else notice the AI jerking the wheel to the side and straight again repeatedly on the corners when the player was passing them? That too turns me off.

The game has variable difficulty, you can basically add every driving aid in the book - So the degree of simulation is up to the player, I believe full simulation is pretty realistic.

Can't comment on the AI though.

I dunno, I'll probably buy it anyways. I still think the best F1 game ever was World Circuit by Microprose. Yes, the graphics sucked, even by the standards of the day, but it was a fantastic game

Took me a little while to find it. Turns out that it's Geoff Crammond's Formula One Grand Prix (the very first one).

I've never played any of the Geoff Crammond F1 games yet, but I've got the fourth one downloaded, so I'll try that out soon. I also found a modded version which has the 2009 season. :)

The ultimate F1 simulation in terms of realism is still Grand Prix Legends.

GP 2/3/4 are good, but compared to GPL they feel like arcade games imho.

Ooh, sounds nice, I'll check that out as well!

I agree Grand Prix Lengends is a fantastic game, but I don't think you can dismiss World Circuit because from the comparison. Legends is harder because the cars were harder to drive. There are many areas (such as tire wear) where World Curcuit is far better (also vehicle adjustability is a huge one). Personally, I think the original World Circuit was by far the best. Every new release just lost a bit more of it's hardcore nature. Legends is a great game in it's own right, and is definitely worth playing, but to make a comparison can't really be made. They are very different games because they are about very different cars.

It's a shame proper realism isn't part of the mainstream market.

I agree. I LOATHE when people say "NFS: Shift is the most realistic driving game ever!" No, it's one of the most UNrealistic driving games ever.

Agreed. I've never heard anyone say NFS Shift is the most realistic, but yeah, since they managed to screw up drifting, I'd call it more unrealistic than Ridge Racer. :p

Sorry to go even more off-topic, but there's so many different patches for GPL, I don't know which one to install! Meph, what's your recommendation? I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I've downloaded this one at the moment.

Yeah, I have the same feeling when it comes to shooters primarily - People genuinely thinks games like America's Army and Bad Company 2 are realistic, you see kid-soldiers go all spastic over extremely limited

external ballistics.

Okay, this is going severely off-topic

That's the one I would go for, but he might have a better recommendation.

    • Well again I do not mind seeing it charge my stuff if it does it well. "yeah charge my phone like that, charge it good"
    • Getting so tired of this push for that new useless slop over the less-useless old slop that at this point I just want M$ to have this nice, big, hearty cup of *FU*.

    • Thanks Microsoft but no, I find both iterations of Outlook terrible nowadays and switched back to Thunderbird at home.
