Windows 7 Build 7100 RC (Changes/Bugs/Tweaks) Discussion

Oh cool, i didnt know it didnt really matter, ill snag one! Thanks! ALso im going from vista sp1 with all my stuff setup to RC...think ill be ok??

it should be ok, this is the type of thing they want tested because when win 7 ships alot of people will be doing the same thing.

with that said you may find you'll get slightly worse performance if you do a upgrade.

?

That wasn't an issue even in Vista, nevermind 7.

Funny... For not being an issue in Windows 7, I get 0byte files with permission denied randomly when I try to save something to the desktop as well.

I assume this is what hes talking about.

Did anyone else notice that the EULA says the RC expires June 1st, 2010, yet winver says March 1st 2010? Running slmgr /dlv shows June 1st, 2010. Odd, no? Also, the rearm count has been reduced back to 3.

Now that's curious... I'd trust slmgr and the Eula more on this. Perhaps they intended 1 March first, then reconsidered and changed it to 1 June - and forgot about winver.

Anyone's WEI score change? My base score stayed 5.9, but my Memory score went from 5.9 up to 7.4 (it was 5.9 in both 7000 and 7048, it rose up to 7.4 in 7100), my Graphics score (for Aero) dropped from 6.9 to 6.7, but my gaming graphics stayed the same (6.9). My processor and HDD scores are the same as before, but my Memory and Aero Graphics scores both changed....one increased the other decreased.

No change with WinSat for me, same score as in 7106 - meaning Aero Graphics has still the same bug and reports 6.8 rather than 7.9.

It reported it properly up to 7048, then nosedived to 5.9 in 7057 and recovered a little to 6.8 in 7106. I wonder when they will fix this

Exactly what I upgraded from. Worked like a charm no problems what so ever.

If you need a Windows 7 key, go get one from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7...a-download.aspx

As for Firefox, whenever I back it up, I make a folder called Mozilla Firefox and then I copy the following folders complete into it:

\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Mozilla

\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla

\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

and I name them:

Mozilla - Local

Mozilla - Roaming

Mozilla Firefox

and copy 'em back (and change the names, of course) with a new installation. Been doing that since last November or so, and I've reinstalled Windows 7 maybe... oh... 1500+ times since, and I'm still using the same Firefox installation upgraded as required (now at 3.0.9).

Guaranteed way of not missing anything at all, that's for sure - it's as safe and secure for me as using Mozilla Firefox Portable from PortableApps.com.

There is a program called Mozback up that is much effective and reliable, I've been using it since vista beta days. You're always guaranteed full backup of everything. It works with thunderbird and I think any mozilla products.

I have never had this issue. I just install Firefox, delete the directory it created and copy back the "Mozilla" directory into roaming. Firefox picks it up straight away.

that will work too because there is a profiles.ini file within C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox that points to the profile. you just happen to overwrite that profiles.ini as well in your case and everything is well ;)

On the Start Menu right clicked My Computer and then it was spinning spinning spinning until the shell had to be restarted.

This is my second day with 7100 and so far the shell has proven less reliable than build 7068.

I have found 3 times when going into a folder that it will spin spin spin until I had to restart the process. Never had that on 7068.:(

Edit: In fact, it just happened now.

My main problem with RC is only WMP12

It still seems broken with no TAG editor support. If I try to tag multiple MP3 files together using latest DbPoweramp, it randomly fails to tag few files and throws up an error message.

Is WMP12 a lot behind the schedule ?? Cause now it is nowhere usable to manage my MP3 collection ?

Someone didn't pay attention in their maths class at school.

1st of March 2010 plus 3 rearms equals 1st of June 2010.

Has anybody noticed the decrease in divx avi quality when playing it back compared to Vista? I know this may depend on the codecs installed. I played some sample media with it and it was perfect though when I played an episode of for example The Office the quality was crap and nothing compared to vista.

something wrong with 7100. on previous build (i use 7077 two weeks as main OS) i never had blue screen, but today in 3 hours i get 4 blue screens

and some bugs

1. Widget What's on tv doesnt work anymore (works on previous builds)

2. DVBViewer cause blue screen, while in 7077 doesnt, and all works perfect

3. blue screen without a reason (i use same program, same drivers like in 7077)

I don't think so. The rearm is only for unlicensed copies. It extends the "initial grace" period.

Holy crap fixed my display not going to sleep on my Dell Latitude D830 yesterday!!

Had nothing to do with build 7077 or 7100.

Havent installed the beta MS Intellipoint on the last two builds and noticed yesterday after pulling out the USB transmitter for my MS notebook optical mouse, my display went to sleep!

Installed the Intellipoint beta once again and voila! Display is going to sleep again after 5 minutes just like I have it set too..

Too bad I think either the ATA controller or the cd-rom is dying in my Latitude now.

    • IBM are good at announcing stuff, but not at actually delivering it... How many decades ago did they announce quantum computers, and here we are in 2026, with CHINA delivering them, and IBM still talking...
    • It sounds like you’re trying to rewrite a narrative to align this layoff with your political beliefs. Games can be horrible, whatever backwards notions you have don’t change that bungie has problems, mostly with just bad games, and arrogance. When they pushed Microsoft to let them be independent they lost their way. They hired on a bunch of people and they couldn’t justify the employee count consistent with their revenue.
