Ridley Scotts "Prometheus" (2012)

Recommended Posts

I like movies where actors portray emotions beyond that of wooden and dead. Ryan can act, but this movie was not having that. He was just a silent, emotionless person, who would rage every now and then on someone. Other than that, there was nothing to the movie at all. The plot, the motives, and everything else was just lacking and as bland as could be.

You want to see acting? You want to see what makes a movie good? Go watch I Saw The Devil.

Are you familiar with the minimalist cinema movement, dogma 95 or cinema verite, etc?

Newsflash for you, not every movie must be the same, some movies are art exercises. Drive is one of those, it's an amazing exercise of narrative built upon minimal elements.

A bit tomboyish, but lovely as hell. Loved her in the Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

that's just because of her role in dragon...but that said she was fit in that and I think she will do well in this

We've Seen the Start of Prometheus!

The film's opening 10 minutes screen in London, while Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender discuss the film's secrets.

New footage from Ridley Scott's Prometheus screened in London this morning, with director Ridley Scott and the rest of his cast also participating in a brief Q&A to discuss the secrets therein and the DNA that links the film to 1979's Alien.

BEWARE OF SPOILERS AHEAD

The footage was taken from the start of the film, kicking off with a brief prologue - set in 2089 - in which scientist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) uncovers mysterious cave paintings during an archaeological dig on the Isle of Sky in Scotland.

The drawings revolve around humans worshipping giant beings, who in turn are pointing to the stars. It soon becomes clear that similar paintings have been found by different ancient civilizations in sites all over the globe. The pictures suggest that aliens may have visited Earth before, and point to a faraway planet, similar to our own, which is capable of sustaining life.

Proceedings then flash-forward to December 2091, with spacecraft Prometheus winging its way to the planet LV-233 (the early action in the original Alien took place on LV-426).

The ship's crew - which includes Shaw and her scientist-boyfriend Holloway - slowly wake from their space-slumber, and we are introduced to Vickers (Charlize Theron), the tough-talking company suit who is leading the expedition for reasons as-yet-unknown.

Vickers then plays a holographic film featuring Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), the elderly boss of Weyland Corp., which has funded the mission. Weyland informs the crew that if they are watching the film he is by now dead, introduces them to the ship's android David (Michael Fassbender) and tells the story of Prometheus, who stole fire from the gods and gave it to man, prompting our own evolution.

The sequence then ended with the recently released trailer alongside quick-fire shots from the film.

The director and cast then talked about the making of the movie, with Fassbender discussing the ways in which he prepared to play an android. The actor revealed that he watched Blade Runner, The Servant, Lawrence of Arabia and The Man Who Fell to Earth as part of his research.

He also explained that diver Greg Louganis' walk was the inspiration for the character's movement, and revealed that David will develop a wicked sense of humour over the course of the film.

But it was director Scott who was the most enlightening, explaining that the film's final few minutes will be a direct link to the 1979 original, and there will be Alien Easter eggs hidden throughout the film for the eagle-eyed fan.

He also revealed that Prometheus will feature a scene that's equivalent to John Hurt's legendary chest-burster sequence from the original, but mysteriously intimated that it will take place in private, with no witnesses.

    • Microsoft, why can't I just turn off Copilot on my MS account (in order to stop OneDrive from wanting to summarize everything, ahem) in a way that doesn't break OneNote instead?
