First InFamous Review(s)

I'm sure about that but "A few hours of fun" isn't good enough for me, especially not a retail price - I always look for very high replay value in my games, else they just need to be dirt cheap.

All the reviews talk about 20 hours of length and re-playability, that certainly isn't a few hours. Terminator Salvation is a few hours.

I found the demo extremely repetitive, as I have mentioned due to some missing elements and the core of the gameplay - Replay value is one thing but varied gameplay is also high up on my list.

If the demo didn't hold his attention I very much doubt the full game will.

Not to mention he has to pay through the nose for games over there, his point is very understanable.

If the demo didn't hold his attention and he doesn't like the reviews so far then it's not the game for him.

Doesn't imply the game "should be fun for a few hours" in the face of what people interested in it are saying, especially 1UP...

It's why after finishing the grandiose and awesome evil ending after about 20 hours of play, there's just enough replayability and difference for me to immediately start up a new game as good afterwards.
Simply put, InFamous is the kind of game that when I'm not playing it, I'm constantly thinking about doing so. Heck, I already know what's going to happen right after I finish this sentence: I'm going to go back and play more as "superhero lightning cop" Cole.

Remarks from people who've played the full game, not just a demo.

As for no driving/guns, valid compliant if you must have those in your games, but can you imagine spiderman with guns and cars? The first few spiderman games had none of that and they were fun to play. It's explained in the actual game why Cole can't use either, and it's valid to this specific game, not lazy devs or a stupid design choice.

No offence but going through a game again, just to tweak your style of play and end up as a 'good' hero instead of bad isn't any less repetitive. You still go through the exact same game, you just change the way you play slightly, you would do that in any game anyhow to try something new, here you're just forced to change the play-style to achieve it.

Well, Spiderman is a superhero created a long time ago, it has a very specific story and the developers have to abide by it. The story about Cole wasn't created 50 years back, so the Story is probably tailored to 'fit' the lack of gameplay elements. Like, "Oh he's electric, he can't swim then" ... Well, since the guy constantly has thousands of volts running through him, wouldn't he die from that as well? I mean, fair enough, the story is just tailored for the game and any lacking gameplay elements but don't make it sound like the story is an ancient story and the developers just created the game after it.

If you read the reviews you'll know there is specific missions handed out for good/evil characters... and also specific powers. The environment itself changes, physically and graphically and people treat you differently.

What so now why can't create new super heroes? Spiderman is a guy in a suit, he could easily drive cars and use guns, but the design choice is not to to, and to focus on his ability to swing and melee through web. Cole is in the same position, focus on climbing/flying and melee/electricity. Except there's also logic as to why he can't use cars/guns, not just design choice.

The reason he'd die from cars and guns is because they'd explode in his face tearing his body apart, electricity sets off gun powder and would also explode a car engine. It's explained in the story, the reviews hint at that.

What about the Wolverine game? You don't use guns in that either.

As for the electricity... it's explained in the story.

You might have found Spiderman fun to play, I didn't. Just more lame movie adaption games.

Besides, there is a valid reason for Spiderman not using guns and cars. Nothing to do with lazy/stupid design. Read your comics young man!

Need to work on that talking for other people thing too.

Do you not read the discussions above?

inFamous HAS valid reasons for no guns and cars... jeeez.

If you read the reviews you'll know there is specific missions handed out for good/evil characters... and also specific powers.

You just don't get it, you get a different mission where you have to most likely do what you did in the 50 other missions, jump around and kill bad guys, that is NOT varied gameplay.

I never said you can't create new superheroes, I did say, don't use the Story as an excuse for lacking gameplay elements because it would be beyond easy to just tweak the story and allow all those gameplay features. They just tweaked the story in another direction, to be able to cut 'em out. Imagine this twist, he could actually control the electricity, meaning he can choose whenever he's electric or not ... Whoop, quick fix, that would allow swimming, cars and guns.

Electricity is a very interesting concept for a superhero, no doubt about it - I'm just complaining about the sheer lack of varied gameplay which is purely a choice, since they could change and mold the story of Cole.

Except the reviews are on the whole PRAISING varied gameplay missions, please read them before making assumptions. Of course in any open world game their is repetition, but varied missions and game play are talked about in reviews.

Games are focussed around their stories, why on earth would gameplay not play hand in hand with that?

You can't create a lava/fire based superhero then have him put into a water jet ski game.

Right, but the developers of Spiderman had to stick to the comics original story. InFamous doesn't have this problem and they were free to include them. There is no source material other than what they decide on during development. Leaving out guns and cars is a backlash they have encountered from the community over this choice.

Except the reviews are on the whole PRAISING varied gameplay, please read them before making assumptions.

I know you stick to reviews like flies to do to **** but I have tried the demo, every single thing I tried had you do pretty much EXACTLY the same, with very few twists. I made my decision based off a demo, released for the intent of giving an impression of the game.

And you obviously just missed the point completely. The story was tailored remove all those game features that would take a long time to code and make the game a lot more fun, the game wasn't tailored for the story.

Okay now you're just being ignorant to the explanations I have posted about 2 or 3 times as to why we can't use guns/cars.

It's clear you're in here for an argument and to downplay the game, the signature and attitude gives it off. Whatever dude, maybe if you actually play the game and pay attention to the story you'll finally click. I can't do any more to help you understand.

You two are doing again, can't you guys just accept each others opinions as they are and not go on for pages when neither of you are going to change your minds either way, its boring to watch.

If it was in person we could watch you duke it out, but nooo, not on the internets. :p

That is fair enough based off demo impressions, but you can't say there's no reason for you to play a game a second time through when you haven't even played through once at all to see what variations there actually are.

The reviews give off a positive vibe to variation and meaning in playing good/evil, that's all I can base my assumptions on till I play myself.

And you obviously just missed the point completely. The story was tailored remove all those game features that would take a long time to code and make the game a lot more fun, the game wasn't tailored for the story.

That's just a ridiculous statement, Sucker Punch wanted to create a super hero game based off of electricity, the gameplay is tailored to that and the story.

Actually, sounds like you're being ignorant here Gavin and choose to shoot down opinions, points and arguments for the sake of defending inFamous.

I will make up my mind on games, based on PLAYING them, there's two ways of me trying a game I'm unsure about; Piracy or a Demo. If either fails to impress, why the hell would I shell out ?30-40? Such a daft argument.

Actually, sounds like you're being ignorant here Gavin and choose to shoot down opinions, points and arguments for the sake of defending the developers inFamous.

Not inFamous, the developers.

Calling them lazy and claiming bad decision choice is ignorant when explanation and reasoning is looking you right in the eye and you still blast them.

Calling them lazy and claiming bad decision choice is ignorant when explanation and reasoning is looking you right in the eye and you still blast them.

I didn't call them lazy, I said I didn't find the game interesting due to lack of gameplay elements.

And you just buy into that 'reason' like a religious follower, the game could be Wheel of Fortune with an electric wheel and you would be satisfied as long as the story said so. I'm playing the game, not the story.

No I am reading your posts and I know it's explained in the game why he can't use them. That was a decision they made, why you chose to use Spiderman as an example to compare to is beyond me. Not even slightly close.

Replace Spiderman with Superman, Batman etc, it still doesn't make sense. All those games have to follow their source material. Imagine if they decided in the games Spiderman could fly. You think all the comic-book-gamers out there are gonna be like "yo dawg that's awesome!", no, not even close.

My point is, InFamous is a new IP, there is no source material they need to stick to, no boundaries. It was a choice that Cole couldn't use them, and that choice is something people don't like. People want guns and cars.

Nothing to do with downplaying or my sig, didn't I just say I have the game preordered?

I'm sure if they can spend 3 years making an open world game if it was suitable for you to be able to pickup a gun and use it or drive a car you'd be able to. It does not work with the story or gameplay, there are valid reasons why you can't. If you cannot and will not play the game because of that don't, but don't start making ridiculous claims that it's down to laziness or lack of ability for them to code guns and cars.

And I know you didn't call them lazy, Munky did but you quoted a comment I posted at him, I had to explain it to you.

People want guns and cars.

Well so far you and Sethos in here are the two biggest complainers about that... Not many of the reviewers are complaining about it and the games been getting positive feedback. If it were such a deal breaker for the majority it would be implied more that it is.

People want lots of things in every game, not always do-able, applicable to the story or a good decision. That doesn't mean it's laziness, bad choices or lack of ability, that is what I can't get over you saying.

I will make up my mind on games, based on PLAYING them, there's two ways of me trying a game I'm unsure about; Piracy or a Demo. If either fails to impress, why the hell would I shell out ?30-40? Such a daft argument.

I'm not getting involved, it's just the same stuff as Corris mentioned:pp

So someone did see my post.

I was wondering if I should use my invisibility for good or for evil for a few minutes then.

And these silly little arguments are all Andy's fault really. :p

Then stop saying I called them lazy or saying they lack the ability to code - I never said that! For the love of god.

Stop going on about that story like it was created 50 years ago, it was DESIGNED FOR GAME! Meaning they could do whatever they wanted, the story wouldn't be less interesting had they allowed him to use vehicular transportation or use projectile based weapons, everything can be done with a twist. Had the story actually allowed these things, I bet you would still be buying it, reviewers would still love it and more people would probably like it as well but since the story has been created and the game is done, you just feel the need to call people ignorant and think the story is "teh shizzle" because it's too late to change. The story was tailored to disallow these gameplay elements, not because some guy was sitting in a room conjuring up a wonderful superhero Story and the developers a few years later just had to abide by Cole's shortcomings as gameplay elements.

I never claimed once it was lack of ability or laziness. I think it was a poor choice the designers/story writers made.

I'm struggling to think of another sandbox game where you can't either shoot or drive. Fact is, had it been any other game I would have made the same complaints. Someone's gotta be first though and that's probably the whole decision behind it. Can't say I agree with it and imo it lacks against the competition.

Again, get over it, if you don't like my opinions then stop replying to me. I'm allowed to have my say and I've done so with proper backing up. Give it a rest.

Edit:

Thanks Brad (Y)

Hahaha, nah. It's really not :p

And for the record, I'd love driving and shooting in the game. Wasn't going to mention it until AB said only Andy and Sethos seem to care about those in a game.

    • Microsoft Flight Simulator's City Update 15 enhances Midwest cities by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The third major city update of the year has landed for the original Microsoft Flight Simulator and the 2024 release. The latest drop is upgrading the visuals and regional accuracy of three metropolitan regions in the American states of Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The 15th city update is adding eight new areas of interest that have been enhanced with high-fidelity TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface texturing in the mentioned regions. The free update highlights Chicago, Elgin, Cicero, and Arlington Heights in Illinois, as well as Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Woodbury, Lakeville, Plymouth, and Blaine in Minnesota. In Wisconsin, the development has also upgraded the lands and buildings of Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine. The update lands just as one of the world's largest enthusiast flight simulation conventions, FlightSimExpo, kicks off in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 14. The Flight Sim development team's 40-minute keynote at the event can be watched here. At the same time, Microsoft is bringing the 6-seat, single-engine, multi-use light civil airplane Piper M600 into the game as a part of its Expert Series 2 program. • Five things you might have missed during Apple's WWDC 2026 by Aditya Tiwari Image: Apple Apple's annual developer event, WWDC 2026, happened from June 8 through June 12. We have already covered several new features and updates that the iPhone maker unveiled during the official keynote. Apple took Google's help and finally announced the upgraded Siri AI personal assistant, which now comes with an app. Moreover, a truckload of Apple Intelligence features took the center stage. That said, this year's WWDC is a bit different, and you might have noticed or missed the following stuff: Apple's ongoing unification of platforms Image: Apple One thing Apple is widely known for is its seamless hardware-software ecosystem. The company added a new chapter in 2020, when it began the Apple Silicon transition and launched macOS 11 Big Sur with native ARM support. Some major changes happened last year as well, when Apple renamed all of its operating systems to version 26 and introduced the Liquid Glass design language. Until WWDC 2025, Apple keynotes had dedicated segments for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and other operating systems, in which the company discussed each in detail. The WWDC 2026 keynote was different, and Apple allotted most of the screen time to Apple Intelligence and Siri. It didn't even publish separate press releases on its website for different operating systems. While it might seem surprising at first, it shows how Apple plans to move forward with its software ecosystem. Be it the Liquid Glass changes, child safety updates, or other features, they are mostly rolling out across multiple platforms. In other words, Apple is slowly blurring the line between its operating systems and achieving feature parity wherever possible. It's easy to rule out that someone in Apple's marketing team forgot to press the publish button. Everything is a calculated move when it comes to a company like Apple. Putting Apple Intelligence left, right, and center hints that the OS itself is no longer the product anymore. It's Siri, not Pepsi Time and again, various Apple products have been compared to unrelated things and turned into meme material. You might have heard about the "cheese grater" Mac Pro or the "trash can" Mac Pro, to name a few. It's Siri's turn this time. The upgraded AI assistant got a fresh logo, and people have started comparing it with Pepsi. There are other contenders, such as the Sony Ericsson logo and the Yin and Yang symbol. Shot on iPhone. Edited on Mac Image: Apple Apple has been putting the iPhone's camera muscles to the test on various occasions. Even NASA astronauts took it to Space earlier this year and captured some out-of-this-world photos. Recently, Apple TV streamed the first major live sporting event shot entirely on iPhone 17 Pro: an MLS match featuring the LA Galaxy vs. the Houston Dynamo FC. The 'Pro' iPhone has also been used to shoot Apple events in recent years. It's "Scary Fast" Mac event in 2023 was among the earliest attempts, and the tradition trickled down to the WWDC 2026 keynote, which ended with the tag line "Shot on iPhone. Edited on Mac." It's unsurprising to see Apple flexing the camera capabilities of its Pro models, especially when it has been baking professional-grade features, including ProRes RAW and Genlock. Hints for the foldable Apple has been sitting on the foldable iPhone for so long. There is still confusion over when the company will make it official. A recent report said that the iPhone Fold might get delayed as Apple is struggling to perfect its hinge mechanism. But Apple has been dropping hints here and there. A developer dug into the iOS 27 beta code and found internal references about device folding states. As verified by Macworld, the code includes references to "foldState" and "angleDegrees" internal status values, which are apparently designed to tell apps if a device is folded and at what angle. As of now, no other Apple device uses these states. The publication also found internal code suggesting Apple has been testing a device with both Touch ID and Dynamic Island, a combo that doesn't exist today. Last event as Apple CEO Image: Apple Tim Cook's bond with Apple is now almost three decades old, having started in 1998 as the SVP of Worldwide Operations. Back in August 2011, Steve Jobs stepped down as Apple CEO months before his passing, and Cook took charge. Now, the baton has been passed to the hardware chief, John Ternus, who will take over the role on September 1. WWDC 2026 is the last major Apple Event for Tim Cook as CEO. We have seen so much during Cook's tenure over the years, much of which defines Apple as we know it today. From new hardware product lines like Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Silicon, to boosting Apple's services business with Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Pay, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, Apple Care One, and more. That said, the first developer betas for Apple's latest operating systems are now available. You can check if your device is supported on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, and other platforms. What's your favorite feature that Apple announced this year at WWDC 2026?
