Bing Is No. 2 in Search, Yahoo Down, Google Next

I haven't read the whole thread but  how did atheism get brought up?

Oh well.....just to clear things up, atheism is not a religion....http://atheism.about.com/library/FAQs/ath/blathm_rel_religion.htm

Back on topic, the No. 2 search is (as stated previously in this thread) a combination of because its new, and the because of all the news about the 'porn' incident they had.

Either way, MS has done a great job on bing. Google is still my main search but if I'm having issues finding it on google, I am finding myself resorting to bing and finding it there

YAY! Another thing Microsoft can use to control the internet, and the technology age! Let's all give the Monopoly even better results!

// I uses Swagbucks. It's only logical for me to find what I need, AND get paid. (if that fails, I use Google :p)

That's how ;)

I think he means Atheist Agnostic, but probably doesn't know it :)

I would love to switch my SE over to Bing, but in order to do that, they'd need an iBing that is on par with iGoogle. I've tried having different home pages, but iGoogle just wins. The results however are very good, and I'm liking a lot of the features.

There is a link at the top of Bing (Windows Live) that will take you HERE. This is essentially the same thing as iGoogle, it just has not been rebranded to Bing yet but uses Bing's search engine now instead of Windows Live.

So we should stick with one monopoly in search because the new competitior's parent company has a monopoly on the OS market? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

The belief of nothing, unfortunately, is still classified as a belief. Even though atheists feel religion should not exist, we are still classified as such. Yes, that article covers a bit, but until absolute evidence from our side can be shoved down the throats of everyone else, then they will classify us as religious. And, again unfortunately, a majority of world leaders claim to be religious =/.

So atheism may not be a religion to atheists, but it is seen as a religion by the government. (at least in the U.S.).

Nope. Not at all.

How do you figure? Allowing a company to branch out, and take control of even more scenarios is what makes them a monopoly. I said Microsoft was a monopoly in a joking manner, if you didn't catch that. For one, it's not a monopoly yet (because linux, and apple still exist), but to give them more things which they can use to hold against users is just a horrible idea.

The whole thing is, when Microsoft gets control of something, they not only control it, they use it against people to siphon more money out of their pockets. Giving them better results for a new project they launched will only give them more control in something they don't need control over.

Google has done well for the internet, even if they do have less than noble reasons. They don't make it required to have them on your computer, nor do they force you to use their technology for what other people release.

So, giving them more stuff for use = bad.

Bing has some nice features (as did Live before it), but I just can't switch. I've done plenty of comparisons since it came out, and Google's results are just MUCH more relevant than Bing's. Now, Bing is a step up from Live (those results were atrocious), but MS needs to spend some quality time on their service's fundamentals instead of flashy new features.

My whole school switched to Bing as the homepage, and I'm using Bing on my laptop, and desktop.

Bing deserves it. I switched on the day it launched too, because Google already knows too much about me through search, gmail, google reader, google news, google calendar, and google chrome. I don't want to keep all my eggs in one basket if there is a decent alternative and Bing gets the job done very well. I've noticed the search results are improving everyday as more people are sending queries.

Yeah, I' also switched immediately. 2 reasons, like others, because it's not Google.

But also because MS is really flighing high IMO. It's all the good stuff that's coming out: Windows 7 rocks, Zune HD looks very nice, XBOX 360 Natal looks mindblowing ... and at first sight, it might not have anything to do with Bing, but hey... If those things work, why not try the search engine. At least, that's more and more my way of thinking, why not try it, everything else seems to be working great.

IMO, and there has been a topic about this, MS is cool now, launching cool new stuff that really works.

2009 is gonna be a big one for Microsoft. Didnt think it would be so soon, but everything about that company is coming back. It's not often you hear tons of positive news about the company and i've heard nothing but positive news for months and months now.

If no one used Live Search, why would they just suddenly start using Bing? Bit fishy if you ask me. Just novelty probably, will soon wear off.

+1 yea i tried it out just to see how it was, to be honest wasn't to bad but will probably stick to google

Actually I felt the same way. After having a good try of Bing, I thought I'll just go back to Google

I felt it was like comparing an automatic to a manual car, I prefer the manual method, of me deciding what I'm trying to look for. Here's the Google I always use: http://www.google.com/ncr The "ncr" just gives google.com and not an automatic country suffix

Bing is dead.

It's rise to number 2 was a one day only deal.

Not only did it quickly fall back to number 3, it fell to search levels below Live.

StatCounter updates every few hours, so there is also data for today already. And it?s more bad news for Bing. It?s now down to 5.65% in the U.S. ? yes, that?s less than what Live.com was at last month.

    • Forgive my ignorance, but the only difference I see here is that a USB-A is now a USB-C, so there are two of them. For the modern age (and I'd argue since 2020), most products would now come with USB-C as an option, if not the default. Display, charging, devices, etc on TWO connectors, sometimes all combined! So having 2 of those powerful ports is great for something this size! Meanwhile my Surface Pro (5) has a single USB-A port which I cannot even get display out to, instead relying on some Surface Connect dock which I don't have. That is a poor experience, not to mention expensive and not compatible with other devices. Thank God USB-C is mainstream!
    • wow. that color finally comes to Surface Pro. was always a little jelly when a friend had the sandstone Surface Laptop. I wonder how different this dune is from the sandstone. I'll be getting the dune version. always thought black and platinum were a little boring. I'll still have access to my blue Surface Pro 11 as it'll be a hand-me-down.
    • Looks a very subjective aren't they!? I like its simple design. I love the way Apple designs their products with function over form, minimalization, and simplicity over cluttered complex designs. Many, not all, of their products follow this trend, and the device becomes a tool rather than dominating the space. I do not however like their OS. I have never bought a Apple product, and while I'd consider the Neo for my wife, I am hoping there are better alternatives out there when her failing MacBook Pro 2017 finally stops. Fischer-Price is famously plastic, garish, and poorly made. Basically you're describing the Window Laptops the Neo competes against! This is how product design should be, and what Apple have often followed in recent years: https://tenprinciples.design/
    • Isn't that true for every codec? I remember having to buy a PCI MPEG-2 decoder card just so I could play DVDs on my computer back in the late 90s. AV1 support is still fairly new.
    • I'm no Apple fan, and have never bought an Apple product for myself. But I'd argue that where you think Apple is behind regarding an OLED display, that the vast majority of people out there wouldn't even know or care for an OLED. Apple have struck the balance well to create a price point that works, and I hope that PC manufactures, and Microsoft take notice. I'd argue that Asus will struggle to compete with the Neo BECAUSE they put in a more expensive OLED that many people won't actually notice with its deeper blacks. Most people wouldn't care either that their screen is stuck at 60Hz! When I bought a 4k monitor (future proof and for the space), my laptop could only push that out at 30Hz, and it worked fine for my needs for 1.5 years! Heck, the average human eye can't see more than 90Hz in many situations!! So while they are trying to differentiate themselves, and it may well gain them a few customers, for the most part, I think they're missing the point of what the Neo is for.
