PlayStation 3 Slim/Price Cut set for TGS according to PSW

Recommended Posts

I'd imagine that if we do get a PS3 Slim, it will still be a tad expensive.

- PS3 Slim

- backwards compatibility

- Firmware 3.0

- GT5 or Uncharted (your choice?)

- $299 sounds way to good, so I'd probably say if their going to bundle a game, then it will be $329.

wooot :woot: !! this and a price drop and I'll be getting one .....wait ...already have one and I don't use it anymore

Nevermind, good for Sony

I feel exactly the same. I never use my PS3 anymore. Once in a blue moon to watch a BR movie.

so if I were to sell my ps3 which still included backwards compatibility.. i should do it now before this new one arrives and kills the business?

If BC comes back, it wont be because of a new PS3, it'll be a new firmware. If you don't use BC much and wouldn't miss it, I'd just sell the thing now and use the profit to buy a replacement 80Gig with some cash for your pocket.

So here's the deal.

I was walking around this underground marketplace in the Philippines, hoping to get a good deal for a PS3. Lo and behold out of nowhere i saw the PS3 slim. It looked EXACTLY like the rumored photos. I asked the guy and he said it was brand new and that our country had it first. I have a video and a few details.

What I know:

- It has a 120GB HDD.

- Two USB Ports

- The 'touch' button for eject and on seems to be gone, and there are now these random buttons.

- The ps icon is now white instead of colored.

- No more card reader

- PLAYSTATION 3 is gone, rather its PS3. It says this on the bottom as well for some reason.

- The guy was selling it with a Dualshock 3. Whether it is compatible is another matter.

- The guy was selling it for 20,000 pesos, which is roughly ?250, which is roughly $410

Nice fake in the "underground marketplace" of the Philippines. I'm sure Sony planned on launching there first:pp

I'd give up my 60GB launch unit for a slim. Give already!

While I have serious doubts of the legitmacy of the above picture/video, I would say if you like the glossy PS3 you better get one soon, or hope there's still a good supply when the slim comes out. The gloss/touch buttons and metal rims will probably be classed as premium fittings and if you're all complaining about the price of the PS3 just now, you're not going to have much room for complaining about some of the "sexier" touches being downgraded. I do think the slim will be matte, and probably have mechanical buttons instead of touch.

Cosmetics don't impare the functionality and if Sony "need" to get to $299 like you're all making a fuss over they'll probably be some of the highest things on the checklist of how to cut $100 and still have profitability on their minds.

It's either all been fake, or well, be prepared for a chance this is real.... How it's been obtained, who knows, the slims were supposed to be ready for sale in July, might of been stolen/sold early...

Box says 120GB as well.

It also seems to match with that super secret guy was saying earlier in this thread (I'm mostly looking at the buttons and the HDD size mentioned). I'd love for this to be the most elaborate hoax ever, but that seems more unlikely...

Can anyone take a look at the power socket on the back of the Machine? I believe he said it was a new power cable or soemthing. Video quality is terrible so I can't really see if it's the same or not, but maybe someone with more technical knowledge can look closely at it? Could be another indication.

FYI: I've never seen a PS3 Slim =P

I bet it still sells better than the PS3 :p

Oh what a funny turn of events that'd be :D

What?

If it's $299 of course it's going to sell better than the current PS3...

Yeah I think it's real, I had forgot what the picture on the box was like till I posted the above picture.

Comiccon is in like two weeks, but I think the Games Convention at the start of August is the best bet.

One thing I will say is that I HAVE seen that PS3 logo before, the exact one. But that's nothing new at all, its been in trailers and stuff. Who knows! I already have a PS3, so I'm not bothered =P

Be interesting to see if OtherOS support really is gone, though.

Can somebody help me out here, I have my PS3 and my Xbox 360 right next to each other, yet people are not complaining about the Xbox's size. Why?

Also, it is just $100 more than the Xbox, it is not THAT overpriced. I only work 10 hours a week during the summer and I could still afford it in a month or so.

$100 is a lot when you don't have to worry about bills, rent, etc. It's a lot for a machine that does more or less the same job. I know, I know - Blu-ray, Internet browser, all that, it's great, but what if you JUST want to play games? That extra $100 isn't doing a lot for you. If you want a games console AND a blu-ray player, the PS3 offers great value, but if you just want one or the other, it seems expensive.

As for the size, I don't have a problem with either, my sound system takes up about as much room as both systems COMBINED so I couldn't really say much. I suppose the PS3 is about as tall, but it's a fair bit fatter and the fact that it's not flat does annoy me, I am forever setting games and such on top of my consoles, but that's just me. My 360 SHOULD have red ringed long ago, but I guess I got lucky :p

If the PS3 does the same job, but includes Blu-Ray, wifi, and more space, then why complain? I can find two of anything from different brands and they would not be the same price, so why complain to death about it? I can find a Sony 42 inch HD tv and a Toshiba 42 inch tv and they "basically do the same thing" should I complain to death about one of them being more expensive?

You settle for what you can afford, do not complain because you cannot afford the extra $100 and that alone makes the PS3 way too expensive. Dont want a Blu-Ray player, wifi, or extra space? Get the Xbox instead, do not complain about it.

    • Closed-loop cooling and a custom 800G network protocol let the $7.3B campus run as one AI training machine. Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
