Official Zune HD thread

Recommended Posts

Anyone else getting a lag when scrolling through Albums, Artists, Songs..etc? Thought it was something with my collection - reformatted the Zune and re-installed the firmware. Lag is still noticeable even with only podcasts on the device. Fairly annoying. Was not happening prior to the 4.3 update.

I see no update. Still running 4.1

I did the region set in win 7 x64 to canada and united kingdom, still no update. WTF. Any ideas

I'm assuming you have the 16GB? If so, there's a workaround on the Zune.net boards that will walk you through getting the 16GB updated. Seems to be a bug.

Zunethings are selling the Zune HD in the UK.

However it is way overpriced for the moment I think - anyone know when its out over here in the UK?

REALLY do not want to buy an ipod touch since that seems to be the only alternative.

No one knows, MS isn't saying anything either. This is just a big problem. They'd do so much better if they'd sell the damn thing outside of the US, the rest of the world isn't so gaga for the iPod/iPhone etc like the US is. I dunno if it's just a licensing issue in regards to the marketplace content or something else now. It's really starting to turn into a lame joke again at this rate.

Anyone in the UK got one ?

Have you run into any issues ?

I'm tempted to go for the iPod Touch but the Zune is very tempting to get off ebay. I think HD Radio is different to our DAB Radio so I doubt that will work. Anything else ?

I have one :)

The only issue I've really run into is the fact I cannot obtain a Marketplace subscription, but that isn't the end of the world; I will just get one when they allow us to. I can still have a Zune Social account, download podcasts and find album info. from the Marketplace. Also, the HD Radio turns into an FM radio when used here in England :) It's pretty nice.

It sounds like they're going to be releasing some more colors for teh Zune HD on December 1st!

I hope they bring some other stuff out with this, and not just some more colors. Maybe like, you know, some info about international releases and such.

A bit of ZuneHD news from CES. It seems that in the spring a firmware update will bring Xvid playback to the ZuneHD! And Facebook app as well.

Just got one.

Best music player I have ever owned. The Interface is just great, smooth as hell and easy to use, screen is really sexy and touch is responsive and the battery life is like 4x better than my old ipod video.

Not crazy about the zune software though.

How does the Zune HD compare to, say, the iPod Touch? I've been throwing around the idea of purchasing an HD as an alternative and would love to hear some feedback before making a move. :)

For Christmas I got a 32g Zune which replaces my ipod touch 8gb. So far I have loved it way more. I like having a radio esp since I have around 20-30 HD station here in southern California. I enjoy the Zune UI more, and feel it's more about the music and media with the band Bios, and pictures of them on the zune. It doesn't have many apps yet, but there all quality apps compared to app store which filled with garbage. I have impressed alot of iphone users with the Zune's Oled screen. and if u can afford it the Zune Pass is a must have, I loved the 2 week trial, but sadly can't afford it right now.

The HD's interface appears to be more "creative" in terms of what information is produced and displayed to the user. As much as I love the iPod Touch (along with the entire iPod lineup), a device that is more unique would be a fantastic addition to my current collection of MP3 players, which, as of now, consists of a Classic, a Nano, and a Touch.

Apps and the Zune Pass are the two main things that differentiate them. If you want Applications beyond the basic browser, twitter, facebook, etc. then the touch would be best. If you want a device that focuses on the media and you are interested in the zune pass, then definitely get the HD. I would also play with the Zune software and itunes and see what you prefer. I absolutely love the Zune software. So much better than when it first came out.

While I don't have a Zune, I have been using the v4.0 software (along with a monthly Zune Pass) and absolutely love what I see and hear. The entire interface is just... so amazingly clean and "fresh" when compared to that of the iTunes software. You can clearly come to the conclusion that the team dedicated tremendous effort into every single aspect of the software. In comparison, iTunes is simply "blah". I rarely use applications on the Touch; the HD would be perfect for me.

Thanks for all of the assistance!

I'll agree that if you want a device that focuses on your media, get a Zune and a Zune Pass. Heck, you don't even need a Zune to enjoy the advantages of a Zune Pass. I was skeptical of the Pass until 4.0 came out, that's when Smart DJ came into play and I absolutely LOVE it. It's basically like having your own radio station that pulls songs from your collection and the marketplace.

Again, the only thing holding me back from getting a ZuneHD is where I live. I know the same is true for many others on here as well. If MS doesn't say anything about the ZuneHD going to the EU soon I'll have to find some way to import one from the US.

Right now I'm still using the Zune 30 (Halo Collectors Ed.). I've been a bit late with upgrading to a newer Zune for quite some time now. However I'm working on getting a Zune HD 16GB from Amazon assuming the current price of $180 sticks around for a bit longer.

Either way I'll get one even if the price goes back up to the original.

A bit of more news out now that the newest Zune Software update hit.

It seems v4.2 brings with it international language support. The software will now default appropriately to German when installed on a German language PC for example. Could this mean ZuneHD going international soon? God I hope so!

Hey guys, I want to consider this as my MP3/PMP of choice but I have a few questions:

  • I've seen some websites have it listed in ?, even thought it's not been officially released how can I get support if it breaks?
  • ?200 for the 32GB I think is a bargin, any alternatives though that I could consider for good playback and decent video abilities (I know xvid is coming).
  • Any news on a nwe Zune?

Thanks!

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • I've never even heard of this browser before seeing this article. How does it differ from other browsers?
    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
