Well, I found this thread via that box so it'd be wise to keep it. It's just such an easy way for people to get a quick glimpse of what's going on. I don't really find threads any other way. This forum is just way too big for me to actually go looking for threads of interest.

That said, I do find it annoying that the page loads and I start reading something then suddenly the box appears which pushes everything about. If it takes a while for the data to be populated, then that's fine but the box could still just be there anyway. Whack a loading throbber inside and job's sorted.

I use it all the time! Even though I'm mostly just a lurker on the forums, I do mainly browse them from the LFA box, and then specific forums (Like Apple, Linux, Hardware Hangout, Subscriber etc.) but LFA gives me access to forum threads I might not otherwise read...

I think what we need to take away from this is...

Yes, we like it.

I see no reason to use IPB's sidebar - just because it's part of the standard package doesn't mean we should adopt it. The Activity box is more usefl and a lot more relevant to this forum.

Yeah, you through me off as well with the "sidebar" talk, since it's not a sidebar.

But yes, I browse pretty exclusive with it as well. Without it, I wouldn't post nearly half as much simply because digging through each forum is a lot more tedious than simply seeing a thread at the top with a title that peaks my interest. Also helps to see what everyone is talking about if I see a topic up there often enough. Great way to spread the news on a topic and keep people informed.

Edit - Just a thought, I wouldn't have caught this topic at all without it. :p

The point is that in IPB3 it would be in the sidebar by default, but thats giving us issues, so we want to work out if we need to put it at the top or remove it totally, obviously the outstanding support is for keeping it.

Ah, then yes, keep it at the top if you could, please. A sidebar would, in my opinion, look tacky and take focus away from the forum.
