[Official] GTA4 - The Ballad of Gay Tony

Recommended Posts

I don't have a problem with gay people, it just grosses me out, that's all. And playing a game about gay people just isn't appealing to me.

 that's the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while, this isn't some gayporn movie. it's just a game about a gangster that works for some bigger gangster that happens to be a homosexual, hence his alias 'gay tony'.

Guess you must've skipped all the missions with Florian too in GTA IV. :p

According to IGN's review, you play as Luis, but the story is about Gay Tony. Luis' story is very minor apparently.

Just played the first ten missions or so, and wow, I'm impressed. I love the Vice City/eighties vibe to it, the music's great, the monologues are more interesting, there's a lot more humour and the missions I've played so far were all way more fun and over the top than those in all of GTA IV I think. It's just got the best elements of my favourite gta's combined; the vibe/music from Vice City, the varied, sometimes over the top missions and cool extra's like a parachute and tank from San Andreas and the excellent story telling from GTA IV. Two thumbs up :D

Just finished it (~10 hours), really was a blast back to some of the play from San Andreas with the more "outlandish" missions, and it wrapped up one of the loose threads from GTA4 that's always bothered me. IMHO better than TLAD, did feel they were stretching the engine a bit with some of the things, might just be the PC version's ruined it for me, but was really feeling the level of detail vs distance when parachuting.

Mission scoring seems like a good thing, but I can't see myself ever replaying a couple of missions.

Couple of thoughts

Really liked the Brucie parts, showing a different side of the character from GTA4, n and thought the story brought a good ending to the whole "GTA4" series, oh and being able to call for your mate to drop off an APC when you're finished, awesome

Just a couple of gripes

That chopper battle was infuriating, manage to kill one and suddenly there's two more, the control's just weren't built for it

That mission before last when you're defending yourselves in the club, sweet lord, I haven't thrown a controller in ~15 years, but came so close :) Could just be me being rubbish

Gonna be a long wait till GTA5

I'm not too keen on the music I've heard on it so far, was expecting some decent dance tunes.

Also the new Vice City radio station is exclusive to disc. Despite the fact that I bought GTA 4, TLATD and now TBOGT when they were released, thanks Rockstar :(

There's a Vice City Radio station on the disc?! What a waste of having Microsoft points ready. I might save them for something else.

edit : actually, it's not the full tracklisting from Vice City, just a small handful of some 80s tracks.

I just bought Episodes From Liberty City to go with the 360 Elite I got the other day. I was hoping that the disc version's achievements would be separate from GTA IV but it's all lumped together. It also shows as GTA IV in my games library but the disc shows the proper name.

I like this add-in more than the LATD..not saying that the LATD was bad, It almost seemed a rehash of the main game, this seems a little more fresh... I mean seriously...shooting golf balls at a guy tied to a golf cart!

Though, I havent played through it all yet, it seems pretty nice and polished, especially for an "add-on" pack..

Finished playing the main story now, still have plenty of drug missions to do.

Overall the DLC was awesome, it was like a full length game. Not quite as long as the main story but still very impressive. The parachute, new weapons and APC all add more awesomeness to an already great game.

Although after the many hours I've put into GTA IV I'm starting to get bored of the whole engine so it's probably good this is the last DLC, as my tether is coming to and end with the clunky movement. I really do love GTA IV but I think it's about time I put the game down before I am left with sour last impressions.

So far I am really enjoying it, I just did the mission that unlocked the base jumping, which is pretty damn hard actually thought it would be easier to do but it takes some getting used to, so about 2-3 hours or so in if not more as I have done some of the side missions as well not pertinent to the main story.

My biggest thing is I really, really just wish they would implement an easier replay system other than the replay mission from the cell phone text.

But honestly this could be the best GTA game yet. And what I mean by that is it cuts to the chase and you just start off with great missions, great cars, great everything pretty much right away. I know this is part of the story, you are now on the "luxurious" side of Liberty City, but it just makes it a much more enjoyable experience right from the get go.

And I do have to agree with ramsy66, The engine really is starting to look a bit dated, there is WAY more pop in than I even remember, like people popping into the scene within like 10 feet of my character, and I even have it installed to my HDD. And the controls are without a doubt a bit clunky, on foot on tight spaces is still just an exercise in absolute futility, but it is easy enough to put up with cause it is after-all GTA.

But overall really am loving it. Even my wife who has been on her laptop while I have been playing said "I have to hand it to them, they make it extremely entertaining and funny." Characters are just as good as ever, and the opening sequence was awesome, seeing Niko drive by and give you a dirty look for being in his way LOL

And that's your only comment about a massive expansion pack like this?

It's great so far. I'm at 33.32% progress.

It seems alot brighter and clearer than Vanilla and "Lost and Damned". The new cars are a great improvement too.

I'm only just used to driving again after so much biking.

Just one question... when did Luis learn to base jump? ;) Luckily he's very skilled at it.

Well he has a pilots license, I assume it comes with that :p

^ this. I also love how some holes in GTA IV's plot are filled up with these episodes (like what happens with the diamonds and what happened to Bulgarin)

I picked up Liberty City Stories and it's actually quite good. Gay Tony isn't one of those over the top, bitch type gays, so it doesn't really bother me. I'm actually liking this one much more than Lost and Damned. I just don't like riding bikes much, and it forces you to. I've tried so many times to just ditch my bike and grab a car, but the mission fails for doing so

    • I'm still rocking iOS 25.x on my primary phone cuz iOS 26 still has usability quirks (mostly aesthetic and thus its UX) which I don't wanna deal with -- and I've been piloting them with all of these updates on my backup phone, so I'm well aware of its "improvements" since iOS 26 was first released (compared to version 26.5.x).
