[TGS] Gran Turismo 5: March 2010 in Japan

Recommended Posts

nobody on any forums talks about that, it'll come out when its ready, i dont see anyone crying about it not coming out this year.... gt on the other hand is talked about daily

gt is sonys big title, has been in production for 5 years and is still going to miss the christmas timeframe? might as well come out with prologue 2 demo and release it in christmas 2010, wouldnt suprise me

The only past GT releases to make Christmas were

GT1 (Japan only) - 23rd December

GT2 (Japan and North America only) - 11th, 23rd December

Every European release has been after Christmas, along with the rest of the Japanese/American copies not listed above within Q1/Q2 of a year. It's never really been a Christmas title.

The game will sell well whenever it's released. It would've helped move more PS3s for Christmas, but as a software entity it'll sell no matter what month you put it out in. It's Sony's Halo or Modern Warfare, doesn't matter what month it releases in it's going to move copies.

and it looks like they are starting to add damage to non racing cars, albeit just scratches and scores for now, no body deformation.

Showing off the pit crew in HD

From chespace, the Forza community manager

The 458 Italia wasn't playable but I did see it in the screensaver mode on a big monitor and it looked damn good. I tried the SLS build and crashed the car repeatedly with incremental damage texture results (scratches and scrapes on fender and hood) but no model deformation that I could see and no doors and hood popping. I could be wrong and this car could have full damage but I crashed the hell out of it for a few minutes and all I saw were textures for scratches. The SLS did have a cockpit view. Makes me wonder whether or not it'll be like this for the full game where there will be 1000 cockpits and some cars (race cars) will have 3D damage while the remainder will just have texture damage with no deformation.

Textural damage is better than nothing on the non-rally cars, as long as every crash from every car affects your driving.

If true that's probably one of the reasons for December to March, there definitely wasn't texture damage at E3 on any car apart from racing cars.

edit: The SLS is the mercedes above by the way.

On the UK GT site, the list on the Japanese site has been put up, and it says GT5 the release has been announced as March 2010, but doesn't mention that this was Japan only.

Clarification please...

Gamespot is going to tour PD offices tomorrow, hopefully some more info

On Saturday, September 26 (in Japan), GameSpot will be heading to Polyphony Digital to check out more of GT5 and talk with series creator Kazunori Yamauchi. If you've got a question or two about the game, put it in the comments below, and who knows, we just might be able to get it answered on your behalf.

Not really related to TGS, but a cool video comparing GT4 to GT5 on the same circuit/with same car.

Shows how decent looking a game GT4 was, but also how good GT5 looks :)

All the journalist interviews/visits to PD that went down on saturday are embargoed till Monday, even Gamespots, but here's some pics from it

This place is no joke. From having one of the largest server processing rooms (and cools Kazunori?s wine collection), an elevator that lifts cars into the studio, to a hotel for staff to sleep ? Polyphony Digital is one of the most interesting studios I?ve ever visited.

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi says that there will be even more features in the game revealed later, including PlayStation Eye camera support.
Wow they really run circles around Forza with that lighting. They just freakin' nail the light. Thanks to that lighting alone these cars look much more realistic. Forza ones do feel still a lot like plastic which I:(ate :(

Yeah the lighting is the strong point of PDs engine, check this replay from GT5 Prologue

Glad I raced out and got a PS3 to get this game, which STILL isn't out... now that they FELL over 60% in their value, AND the game still isn't out I feel ripped off. Kinda the same feeling with the PSP, 6.8 rating on a Gran Turismo game?? wtf sony?!

Get used to that feeling.

So anyone clock the Zonda R on the last page?

tgs_340_64553_640screen.jpg

Check this car out, it's a beast. Listen to those engine sounds :| Hope it's in GT5!

... that office. W-to the-O-to the-W.

Yeah the office has been detailed before, it is absolutely nuts. There is genuinely a hotel in the middle of it lmao

no offense, but you ran out to get a console for a game that didn't have a release date?

Bit silly don't you think?

You can't say things like that Boz, you'll cause a riot!

This is the one thing that GT5 certainly has over other games, the graphical realism is second to none. Nothing comes close to it in my opinion on consoles. I'm sure a high end PC could possibly wipe the floor with it, although looking at some vids I would wonder.

It's a BIG disappointment with the release date, but thankfully will still have a few big games coming out before then to see us through. Not long now till Uncharted 2 hits! :D

Yeah I'm pretty sure there's not too much difference between textures, well, obviously GT5 Prologue runs at a higher resolution, but the lighting makes things look worlds apart at times,

720p HD comparison video of Forza 3 Demo/GT5 Prologue with same cars

Keeping in mind that's prologue from 2007, GT5 vids above already look better and they've fixed/improved a lot, especially in removing that annoying tire screeching

GT5 will win the beauty contest, but they've got to improve on the engine sounds/physics/damage to catch up on Forza. They say they are, we'll need to wait a bit longer to see.

    • Honestly that feels even more useless than it did when Win11 was first released. In 2021, the uproar was somewhat justified, but only when comparing how good we've had it since Windows 7. Prior to that, a new Windows release would often require new, or very recent hardware. Windows XP wouldn't run (in any usable way) on hardware released when it's predecessor Win98 was released (let's ignore ME). It was time to shift the goal post, and the way Microsoft did that was actually ok. People have still had another FIVE YEARS of free software support with Windows 10, and those of us who want to have used these tools to bypass the limitations, all while understanding the impacts that may have. Most laptops don't last 5 years (sadly), so now the youngest unsupported hardware is 9 years old, and apparently has another year of support with Windows 10. That's good. Meanwhile, understanding the impacts and limitations, I have my 2013 laptop running Win11 perfectly fine. The thing that's failing on it is the hardware, the 2.5" SATA cable/chip is failing and corrupting the SSDs I put in. Thankfully it has a functional M.2 sata drive that works fine!
    • iPhone 18 Pro drop-test video and photos leak on the dark web following a data breach by Hamid Ganji iPhone 17 Pro - Image via Apple Apple is seemingly facing one of the biggest data breaches in its history, and just a few months before the official debut of the iPhone 18 Pro series, photos, a drop-test video, a supplier list, and key phone components have reportedly been leaked by hackers. Last week, we reported that Tata Electronics, an Apple supplier and iPhone producer in India, was hit by a data breach. As a result, it was reported that more than 200,000 trade secrets and confidential documents belonging to Apple and Tesla were stolen by the ransomware group World Leaks. According to Reuters, the group has now leaked supplier lists, component details, and photos of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models on the dark web. One of the materials leaked by the hackers is a drop-test video of the iPhone 18 Pro, which is due to launch this September. The phone is shown in a gray color and has the same familiar design we saw on last year's iPhone 17 Pro series. The device also appears to be quite durable, though it seems to be thicker than last year's model. One possible explanation is that Apple may be using a larger battery in the iPhone 18 Pro series. Moreover, Reuters says it has seen at least six documents mapping many components in the iPhone 18 Pro models to their respective suppliers, including details on chips on the main circuit board and on battery and camera components. The documents reportedly detail hundreds of parts that will be used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. A person familiar with the matter told the outlet that Apple classifies this data as sensitive and “is concerned about the documents being shared on the dark web as they relate to unreleased models.” Apple is reportedly investigating the issue but has yet to issue an official statement.
    • You do you, I've just said that it first appeared in "home" version before it will be available in "work" one. I use Edge only because it still supports MV2 uBO extension even on Android - I'll switch when they stop.
