[TGS] Gran Turismo 5: March 2010 in Japan

Recommended Posts

$12 million a year isn't too bad actually for a AAA title. At $45 profit for each copy, GT5 will need to sell roughly 1.33 million copies. I completely expect GT5 to sell AT LEAST 2-3 million copies in it's first few months, and that's low-balling it. Could easily see 3-5 million in the first year considering how long we've been waiting for this game...

Yeah I was surprised by that considering I think PD have either 120 or 150 employees, GT5 is a new engine, licensing deals, travel expenses, trade/award shows, a high level of asset creation, etc.

If that's the true cost I guess that's why Sony aren't blowing fuses about getting the game out the door asap, as GT5 will easily squash that expense budget. It'll probably sell in the region of 6-8 million titles on the safe side, possibly 8-12 million if well marketed and acclaimed.

The only thing I'm thinking is they might not be including costs to branch off and complete Prologue, but that sold 4 million copies, so it'll have turned a profit. Then considering that PD might be taking the profit from Prologue into account on the GT5 development costs.

Either way they're not haemorrhaging money like some thought for the development time scale.

Shame they can't hold a cam and the brightness is ramped up so that half the time you can't see too much. :(

The pit sequence from 53 seconds looks amazing though.

Have you finalized plans for a track editor?

Things like that I can't really discuss yet. This can be said about all the GT development. Until we're very close to release we won't have a finalized decision on a lot of things.

If there is a track editor, that will make your job easier, right? Because you can make fans design the tracks instead of your team.

[Laughs] A lot of the courses we set up, we take a long time fine-tuning the details and building the track, so it would probably be a bit different than the types of tracks the users will set up in the game.

The videos you've made to coincide with the announcment of the inclusion of cars like the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Toyota FT-86 were great. Are there plans to release more of them?

Of course. And we have a lot of collaborations going on with a lot of different manufacturers right now, so I think not just in terms of video, but we'll have other things to announce as time progresses.

Have plans been finalized for whether motorcycles will be featured in Gran Turismo 5?

If that's what users really want in the game, I think that's a possibility. Or we could consider making a Tourist Trophy 2 as well.

For the Top Gear tracks, will you be able to race agains The Stig's official times?

We're trying to plan that now.

If you could drive any car in the world you haven't driven yet, what would it be?

I'd like to try driving the Tesla Roadster S actually.

Will that car be in the game?

It will appear in the game, and I'm really itching to get the chance to drive that car.

Recently we saw a video of the Gran Turismo box with multiple discs. What exactly is on those discs?

[Laughs] That's something else we can't really talk about yet, but I'm surprised at the level of detail everyone is focused on.

Yamauchi says the weather system for GT5 is "done"

gt5.jpg

Kazunori Yamauchi has told Official UK PlayStation Magazine that the weather system in Gran Turismo 5 has passed the development stage

"Night racing is going to be a part of GT5, but with things like dynamic weather, the choice is about whether it will improve the experience," said Yamauchi. "The functionality is not a problem ? we've got the weather system done ? but if we are not sure about the quality of it, and how it improves the driving experience, we are not going to have it in the game.

"There is a massive amount of content in this game, I don't think there are many teams that put as much into a game as we can. The launch of the game isn't a start, we are releasing a full game. Everything we want to put into the game is on the disc when it ships.

"Having said that, we do have a sizeable online team that will look after it once it's launched. They're spending less time with a single game and this is reflected in the design of GT Mode."

If he's talking about FPS when he says "how it improves the driving experience", 60FPS > dynamic weather. Reduce it to wet tracks like GT3 if need be. However dynamic weather would be sw:drool:ool:

Some eagle eyes have spotted it's the London track at night during the GT by Citreon trailer

Same lettering.

Now we just need to know if the cycle will be dynamic, which would benefit the endurance races.

PD love to tease, I just know the full unveil of GT5 will be epic.

Gran Turismo 5 has been listed on Amazon.com for a long time now, but a very interesting new product was just added to Amazon's French site: Gran Turismo 5 "Edition Sp?ciale">>. Although no other information is provided on the site, as you compare the regular version with the "Special Edition", you'll notice prices of ?65.99 and ?74.95, respectively ? a 13% increase. We first got wind (pun intended) that a "premium" version of the game was in the works when our own inAmar212212, hinted at it nearly 8 months ago. Pairing the news of Amazon's "Special Edition" listing with the three-GT5GT5 box set we noticed in Polyphony Digital's studio, it's rather obvious what is going on here. However, the real question still remains ? what's on those two additional discs to justify the price premium? Could it be the fabled track editor? All the viGran Turismo TVmo TV? Time, as always, will tell? Thanks to Quency for sending this Before anyone gets excited about the March 31 release date listed on the French Amazon site, let me be first to remind you how wildly inaccurate retailer's release dates are.es are.

Polyphony photographing the drag strip at Infineon Raceway. Kaz pretty much confirmed that drag racing would be in GT5 in IGN's TGS interview, so this is just more evidence of it.

The slow pace at which things keep leaking out is soul destroying, we need some proper details fleshed out for Christmas, kthx.

So the lasted Playstation Network email I received December 1st was titled "Get what you want this holiday season with your PlayStation wish list". Now thats all fine and dandy why not promote holiday sales? What confuses me is scrolling down shows GT5 as one of the games you can put on your "holiday wish list". Has sony gone bonkers? Or has Santa had the elfs help finish GT5 in time? :p

I'll attach the first 2 pages of the email.

I think that's just the advertising agency creating a promo image for Sony out of exclusive PS artwork :p Remember GT5P still exists... even although I don't think that's what they're hinting at, the advertising agency probably just used artwork from it.

The 2nd page wasn't uploaded yet. Look again now.

Well they do call it a WISH list

Nah, again it's probably just a marketing/advertising agency mistake, or I'm right with my first comment which is kind of a joke, it's just a wish list for what you'd want most for Christmas.

I don't think GT5 will be feature complete till Jan, then it will be polished until March. Maybe they'll surprise us and hit us with an EU/US release in Feb to avoid clashing with GOW3 in March, but most likely April/May.

If they unveil GT5 as getting released for Christmas in EU/US like all the rumours pointed to before TGS that would be one hell of an uproar  It's most likely a case of GT5 was planned for December, and this artwork was already completed and prepared for posting before GT5 was internally shifted to March. There were too many "solid" rumours before TGS that it would come in December, but most of us kind of know it was pushed back a few months to tweak the damage and some other stuff.

Best Buy Canada is now carrying pre-orders for GT5 with the release date of 'early 2009'.

I've only ever seen this done 1-1.5 months before the release of a game...

Lets do the time warp agaaaaaain :&:

    • This looks awesome, I will request access via Steam later this afternoon!
    • Personally, I’ve found that it’s usually worth investing in the infrastructure you don’t want to replace later, especially cabling. Running Cat6A (or better, depending on your needs) during an upgrade is relatively inexpensive compared to having to re-cable a few years down the road. For switches I try to balance current specs with realistic growth. If my budget allows it Ill choose switches with higher uplink speeds which leaves room for expanding later on, but I don’t necessarily overspend on access ports if the endpoints won’t benefit from them anytime soon. One lesson I’ve learned is that planning for scalability pays off. It’s much easier to add devices, VLANs, or higher-bandwidth workloads when your network infrastructure already supports it than to replace hardware later.  What is your budget like?
    • I hate the term, "future-proof." We saw it back in the 90's / 2000's, if not before. You cannot future-proof anything, since there is no definition of how far into the future you plan on prepping for. Best idea is to tell us what you currently have and what its use is at the moment, and we can then offer ideas about some areas that might need an upgrade and other areas that can be left alone.
    • I can agree that it is being used in a small capacity. I worked for a company where their engineers still used XP, and when asked why it was because their sensor software wasn't compatible with newer operating systems and the software was discontinued so they couldn't upgrade the software. Given that the sensors were still in use by companies, they had to continue using XP to support the sensor, otherwise the price to the company would have gone into the millions or billions. Our response was simple: Ok, you can keep the XP machine. But we're removing it from the network. "But then it can't access the Internet or folder shares!" Yup, kinda the point. If someone wants to continue using an unsecure OS they can do, I have no problem with that. But it should be isolated. Simple. I had a fight with a guy in the engineering department for weeks before he finally relented. But we digress.   What do I plan on doing to commemorate the anniversary? Nothing. I have fond memories of the OS, but at the end of the day it's just an OS. If I had some time I might see if I could install it on my Raspberry Pi for a laugh. But my reflex memory with today's OS ideas would probably get me frustrated and I'd uninstall it after 5 mins.
