Torchlight - Awesome Diablo Clone Now Out!

Recommended Posts

I played this game for about a week with a vanquisher first, destroyer second before I had gotten bored of it. Tried to my an alchemist (or whatever that class is called) but I didn't want to play through the same exact story line for the third time. Its a great dungeon crawler game, but I have found I get bored of pure dungeon crawlers with no variation in the story somewhat fast.

Yes, it is. Download the mod tools, or read the forums, and learn how to make mods.

You can do anything you want with this game.

They gave the modding tools they made the game with away for free..

Tell me, what can I do with the mod tools? You say you can do anything with these tools...give me some examples.

Just because you have mod tools doesn't make the game anymore enjoyable. It's all the same looking.

Agreed. I think the people here who keep touting that it's a great game just don't want to admit they paid $20.00 for a so-so game that has a wow factor for about 2 hours.

You can make your own damn game.

Instead of being lazy, how about you actually do the research on your own?

The mod tools they gave us, are the exact same tools they made the game with.

You can change the game 100% and there are already people working on doing so.

If you don't like the game fine. But please shut up about others opinion on the game, you just look like an idiot.

I guess it's ok to foam at the mouth over it but to say it's no good is wrong? Because my opinion differs from you means I have no right to express them? Boohoo to you.

IMO....The game sucks and there isn't anything you can do about it. It's boring, repetitive and unbalanced.

You can make your own damn game.

Really???? Then show me the work you've accomplished since you're so high and mighty about modding...I'm sure you couldn't even begin to understand how to mod a game let alone tell someone else how to do it...That I'm 100% sure of. I've done some modding on other games and understand what it's all about.

If I already don't like a game what makes you think I want to put the effort into creating something for it??

You're just trolling now.

The mod tools have been out a about three or four days and your demanding to see MY work..

I have attempted to mod a game, I used to mod Duke 3d, Quake, Doom, Doom 2.

If you don't like the game, leave the thread, don't follow the advice I'm giving you to look at all the amazing mods that people are turning out and working on, on the official site.

Quit trolling. You're wrecking the game for the rest of us.

Sorry but I can have my opinion on this game just as much as you.

How can I be wrecking a game with an opinion? You sound like a fanboy who just got his feelings hurt.

It's a game. Get over it.

It's only fair to people to show them that not everyone "loves" this game so they can at least have more than 1 point of view.

To anyone looking to waste their money on this game I'll give you the lowdown on it.

It's a ripoff of Fate..nothing more and nothing less.

You do dungeon crawling. Nothing more and nothing less.

The dungeons look almost identical to each other.

Go up to town, get a quest and go back to the dungeon. Pretty standard for 1999.

The items are very unbalanced. Rare items don't even compare to some of the more common items.

There's so much loot dropped that it isn't even enjoyable to pick it up because there isn't any incentive to.

Even on hard mode you can easily beat the game without dying.

Oh yea, there's an editor so you can create your own bland looking game.

Don't follow the advice I'm giving you to look at all the amazing mods that people are turning out and working on, on the official site.

Amazing mods? Amazing mods?

There are no amazing mods. Just little hacks that add a different twist. Nothing that exactly enhances the gameplay. You are a fanboy.

Sorry to rain on you're parade...

Ignore my posts if you don't like them.

Not really a ripoff when the lead designer was also the designer of said game. More of a "use what has been proven to work in previous games I have designed".

Development of the game is led by Travis Baldree, designer of Fate, and Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer, co-designers of Diablo and Diablo II, joined by the team that developed Mythos.

Exactly. It's the same hash that's already out there only with different use of mesh.

It's not this "amazingly, oh my God" game that deserves the credit it's getting...IMO

and it ****es me off that I didn't go with my gut instinct and not spend my money on it.

So yea, I'm going to diss this game as much as I want. It's my opinion and I'm using it.

You don't understand. I'll make it easier for you.

1) Stating your opinion is fine.

2) Trying diminish other peoples opinion about the game is not.

Here is what you said

I think the people here who keep touting that it's a great game just don't want to admit they paid $20.00 for a so-so game that has a wow factor for about 2 hours.

Basically you are slagging us who like the game, "we (who think the game is great) don't want to admit we bought a so-so game with a wow factor for 2 hours".

You are complaining and "crying" (as you like to call it) just as much as everyone else is when you post and act the way you do.

EDIT: Also, instead of whining about not liking the game, you could have waited awhile. There is a free demo on their site now which you could have tried, seen you didn't like, and saved $20.

You are complaining and "crying" (as you like to call it) just as much as everyone else is when you post and act the way you do.

I'm "crying and complaining" because I FEEL that I've been cheated out of my money for a game that doesn't live up to the views expressed in other peoples opinions.

Not because my feelings got hurt.

people have the right to hear from someone other than a fanboy

Sorry but its hard for me to agree with someone who spent $20 on a game without trying the demo then feels cheated out of it when they do not like it as much as they thought they would have.

I was all excited for a decent Diablo clone until I saw the graphics; I hate cartoon-style/cell shading in video games. Just looks too damn cheesy for my tastes. Oh well.

Glad to see the originals Diablo devs are still working though. Thanks to them I wasted far too many hours duping 'Godly Plate of the Whale' and 'Kings Sword of the Heavens' when I was young.

He's not being a fanboy, the game is genuinely good. Also, I think a page ago someone told you to shut the **** up on commenting on others' opinions. You seem to have misunderstood there, he's not shutting you up. He's shutting you up on commenting on others' opinions. Now stop trolling and go do something useful.

    • Millions of users to benefit from Windows 11's new performance boost on Adobe Photoshop by Sayan Sen Despite the advent of AI-generated imagery, Adobe's Photoshop remains one of the most popular tools on this planet. Adobe does not have a publicly reported total user count but it's probably not wrong to assume there are millions. As of 2025, Adobe Creative Cloud has had approximately 41 million paid subscribers, many of whom likely use Photoshop. In addition, more than 166,000 companies worldwide are apparently also using the app. These figures are according to a very recent report by SQ Magazine. Out of them, it is fair to assume that many are probably running Windows. As such, there is good news for these users as Microsoft has announced Photoshop is getting a big 20% performance boost on x86-64 (AMD64) systems and a 13% bump-up on Arm devices. This is definitely great news for them as many have complained about the slow performance and general sluggishness of Photoshop on Windows 11 ever since the advent of the latter back in 2021. If you are wondering how Microsoft managed to do this, the answer lies in a combination of compiler-level optimizations and a technology called Sample Profile Guided Optimization (SPGO). According to Microsoft, Adobe worked closely with the company’s Visual C++ team and adopted the latest MSVC toolchain enhancements together with SPGO to squeeze more performance out of Photoshop’s CPU-bound workloads. Unlike traditional Profile Guided Optimization (PGO), which requires developers to create special instrumented builds and run lengthy training workloads, SPGO gathers performance data directly from optimized release binaries. This means Adobe could collect real-world usage information which gives a major advantage to this technique, as companies could leverage data collected from actual customer workloads rather than only relying on synthetic benchmark runs. In theory, this should allow optimizations to better reflect how users interact with software in the real world. Thanks to this, there are improvements to code layout, function inlining, hot-and-cold code separation, and other low-level tweaks that help processors execute instructions more efficiently. Essentially the compiler is better able to identify “hot” code paths, those which are most frequently executed, and optimize them accordingly.
    • "The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD hits lowest price in over three months¨ I'd prefer to see the lowest price in over a year
    • Glad these prices are starting to come down, but that is still crazy. I bought the 2TB 9100 Pro (slightly more expensive version with PCIe 5.0) last year for $240.
    • The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD hits lowest price in over three months by Sayan Sen Yesterday, we covered a really good deal wherein you can get a 4TB TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD for a low price of just $400 with a special discount coupon. That's just $100 per TB, making it a very good offer during these hard times. The deal is still live, so you can check it out in its dedicated article here if you do not want to miss out. Meanwhile, if you don't have that kind of budget but still wish to buy an SSD for a good price, the 2TB variant of the TeamGroup SSD at $280 its lowest price in over three months. Meanwhile, those seeking 2TB but faster performance can check out Samsung's 990 PRO, which has hit the lowest price also in the last quarter or so, as it's on sale for $370 (purchase links under the specs table down below). Thus, you want a faster drive, get the 990 Pro, or you want more capacity, grab the TeamGroup 4TB linked in the first para. The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $500. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more.
