[Feedback requested] Atlas take two, who likes black?

BLACK LOOKS BITCHIN!

Okay, I have to say, I'm really excited about this now. No more worrying over the colors that were presented to us originally. Having choices (and great ones at that) is simply wonderful. (Y)

May I ask what browser was used for capturing those screenshots, Neobond? I ask because the corners shown in them don't look all too great compared to other screenshots.

Google has a fix in the pipeline, if you're using the dev channel builds you'll have anti-aliasing on the corners. Looks quite good, actually. Feels nicer than most other browsers with the rounding...

huh wha.... i dont even notice the corners were rounded/sharp ... maybe when the new style gets rolled out i'd notice it more

and yeah, i dont have firefox because its massively slow on my netbook for some reason, i cant even scroll the page without having long pauses... being able to tweak the colours and having it saved as a cookie sounds like a better idea...

That I am, and VERY good to know!

Can't wait for the release!

The black is nice and probably too dark for some, but glad there are choices. Just think though, you know they say that if you run a black and white web site, in effect you are forcing pixels to turn off, in theory saving energy...

Get all the black lovers and you will have a mass energy savings at last while on the Neowin front page. :)

Back to reality - the redesign is looking great and no matter how long it takes for the team to do this, I will patiently wait for it and be happy for the high quality of work that the dev team does. (Does that win me any points? lol)

...

Of course, that only applies to CRT's, LCD's can't turn the backlight on and off for certain pixels (It'll be nice when we have screens capable of that though, showing an HDR image natively without tone mapping)

I can't stand websites that are designed to be all black with white letters. Whenever I look away the screen is still embedded in my eyes... To each their own though, it does look really good.

Yeah, it's definitely not for everybody. Don't worry though, it's simply another color option and will not be the only one available.

I'm still waiting patiently for the iPhone version of the page...

Yeah we have an iPhone version of the forums, but not of the FP. I hope this is added into the new one.

That's awesome, but why is the comment number on the bottom one red when it has a lower number of comments than the one above it? What does the red denote?

That I'm not sure actually you may need to ask Timan (our designer) but I think it's cause the news item is "Hot" so it has been viewed a number of times etc.

    • Apple CEO Tim Cook confirms looming price hikes due to memory shortages by Hamid Ganji Image via Apple Memory and chip shortages have led to significant price increases for electronics over the past year, and it seems that more hikes are on the way for upcoming smartphones and computers. Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the company is planning to increase the prices of some of its products due to the ongoing memory and storage shortages. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook confirmed the looming price hikes for Apple’s future products, adding that “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable.” He also said the company is doing its best to “mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.” The Apple CEO also noted that the allocation of a large portion of memory chips to AI companies has contributed to shortages in the market, resulting in lower supply at a time when demand for devices remains high. “We definitely need memory pricing and supply to return to reasonable levels for consumer products. That’s the bottom line,” Cook said. Cook also added that Apple is ready to use its vast cash reserves to help boost supply in the market because additional production capacity is needed. While he declined to specify how Apple plans to do that, he said the company will not build its own memory and storage factories despite its financial resources and silicon expertise. Cook did not provide further details on the scale of the price increases or which Apple products would be affected, though iPads and Macs could see higher prices sooner than other products. Apple’s next product launch event is scheduled for September, when the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone. It remains unclear whether the upcoming iPhones will be affected by the price increases, but given the current memory shortage, higher prices seem increasingly likely. There is currently no clear timeline for the end of the memory shortage. Samsung, one of the world’s three largest memory chip manufacturers, recently said the shortage could persist for several more years.
    • Downloads does not equal actual usage, even less when the app is pre-installed in some Galaxy phones.
    • +1000 to this, don't understand why they added that margin around the top bar, even the close button is a PITA to click without aiming. Ofc, this is just preview and hopefully they will revert such odd UX decision before hitting final version.
    • so the people who bought this will get a refund?
