Halo Reach Thread

Ouch @ the leak. I'm sure people will still be buying this though if they want it that badly. Big big one to lose sales on though, MS can't be too happy with this one!

The impact is relatively low this time around because of the requirements to play it.

This wasn't your typical game leak where a street date was broken etc.

A retail version will probably leak as well. :)

Promo copies of the game aren't being distributed until a few days before release date so I'm not sure there will be a leak. I think the bigger websites will be downloading the game to avoid the game being leaked.

But there's more ways for a game to leak right? Maybe someone will find a way to create a signed ISO from the JTAG version.

I'm curious how the previous games leaked. Off to Google! :D

Previous games usually leak from promo copies. Any guy can set up a website, run it for a few months and then get review copies of games. Heck, I write for a website that's been up 2 months and already there's copies of Bioshock flying around and I've got a copy of Reach set aside for me from Microsoft.

Usually promos get sent out about a week before release so reviews can go up before the game is released, but for Reach they're not doing that for some reason. Reviews musn't be needed or something!

Livin In A Box, will you stop to think before you post, please?

What do you think the copy of Halo Reach is that's currently out there? It was made available on Marketplace for promo/review.

...and nobody has got codes for it. Trust me, I know. And the leaked copy of Reach is only for JTAG that for many users isn't usable. Of course, there are loads of JTAG users out there.

It's 3 weeks till release?

****sake, I'd hate to be a big Halo fan. I get antsy about my favourite IP's leaking days early for spoilers.

They're d***s for just posting the ending all over forums. If they hadn't have done that and kept it all secret then it would have been fine...maybe...and they didn't leak it out for other people to try. But we all know that that was never going to happen.

z

Normally I wouldn't mind waiting. But now I know there's a lot of people playing already, and that bothers me. I'm jealous! :p

Yeah the spoilers would **** me off, but I'm not going to lie I would be a bit jealous as well rofl.gif Usually what temps even the most legit gamers into dabbling into piracy if they can easily enough. 3 weeks is a loooooong time in a fans head.

Yeah it does feel very long. I should probably go out and do something instead of sitting inside all day waiting for Reach.

With the PS Jailbreak, we could see PS3 games starting to leak early and playing 3 weeks before everyone else...

Gran Turismo 5...a month before everyone else...

I usually go dark in the weeks leading up to a game release. That is, I don't venture into the comment sections of news articles, I don't do random YouTube searches (I'll watch the official trailers only), and I'll try to stay away from discussion forums. This particular forum is fine though, since the people here are more civil than your average Internet dwellers.

The only way I could see myself accidentally stumbling upon a spoiler is if somebody were to tweet it. That's probably harder to avoid (unless you're willing to go dark from Twitter, which I'm not).

And I wouldn't click the link above. Don't know if it's real, and I'm in no rush to find out  .

This is an interesting video of the final moments of the game with spoilers.

Seeing as I don't give a rats arse about the story in this particular game I am debating on whether or not I should watch this.

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
