Is it possible to remove apps that are installed by the ROM? There are a couple of things I want to remove, like Android contacts, dialer etc. I prefer the HTC variants.
This is easily done. You can use something like CookAndroid.com or use WinRAR to go into the zip file and delete the correct APKs. Please note, that some APKs are critical for the Android platform.

Do you think they will go back to AMOLED?

I don't really want an SLED one if I can help it. Although I won't be getting mine until October time anyway as prices for the Desire will fall with the (maybe) release of the desire HD.

Hopefully, yes. Although you will be very hard pressed to notice the difference between SLCD and AMOLED. I would still prefer AMOLED.

Sadly, there's still no word from HTC on when Friendstream will support Twitter's new OAuth mechanism.

Looks like Twitter has fixed it for mobile clients (Twitter status update) although I presume this isn't using OAuth as that would require an update to Peep/Friend Stream?

Running Leedroid now.

How is that Swype application Singh?

Swype is great, been using it since I got the Desire, signed up for the BETA straight away. There is a similar keyboard in the market called TouchIT I believe the demo is free, but time based so would need uninstalling and reinstalling etc. Bit of a pain.

Yeah I'm gutted the beta is closed pinch.gif

Installed LauncherPro to give it a whirl the other day.

Holy **** its a significant improvement on my battery with the same usage as I'd give SenseUI.

I love that its more customisable too - is anyone else using it? If so, what widgets/themes do you use?

Conclusion therefore: try LauncherPro and be happy - I can finally use my Desire to its fullest without worrying about the battery dying on me mid-afternoon!

Swype, is THE best thing I have ever come across on the Android platform. Seriously, killer app.

I use it, I'm not sure it's the best thing because there's so many and I'm so happy with my Desire but it is by far the best keyboard I've used on any mobile device. I reckon it takes less a 10 sms to get used to it.

For other Swype users, since I flashed my ROM and reinstalled last weekend I'm missing the smilely button on the bottom right hand side of the keyboard (when writing sms for example), is this

a) something to do with the ROM?

b) something I can change?

c) an update by Swype (I ask because I redownloaded Swype instead of restoring my apps backup and wondered if it was a newer version than before)?

Thanks

I have started using the keyboard mod Audioboxer mentioned, and I find it a bit better than the stock HTC keyboard, being multitouch it allows for faster text input. Only annoyance is that you can't long press to insert numbers and characters as you can on the HTC keyboard.

I managed to get push email working with Hotmail on my Desire, running Android 2.2 with HTC Sense (Custom baked Modaco R8 Rom)

You need to use the stock Android Email app and not the HTC Mail app, for whatever reason the HTC Mail app just doesnt work.

I have uploaded the stock Email app here, however dont know if thats all you need to install it on your Desire as i ripped it out my baked rom.

Settings:

Setup an exchange email account.

Domain / username: \[email protected] (you need the \ before the email)

Password: Only you know that :p

Server: m.hotmail.com

Tick the use secure connection box.

For the email check frequency select Automatic (push)

As you can see it works perfectly, no more "failed to create the account" errors :)

Been using a different method for a while now. Someone over at XDA suggested using this app. Works perfectly fine (Y)

The Angry Birds port is pretty impressive imo. Hard to tell the differences between this and the iPhone version. Android needs more polished apps like these imo. Wish more devs would port their apps to Android and put in as much effort as these guys have with Angry Birds.

Damn, the game is very addictive, been playing it non-stop since yesterday. We need more games like this.

No, not to my knowledge. With Brut mod, Google Maps ****es all over any other map app.

As far as I know, doesn't Brut just add navigation worldwide, what else does it have that standard Google Maps doesn't?

    • So what is it, "Some exciting upgrades happened under the hood, and one of those upgrades is now available to all Windows 11 users." or "Also, you may need to enable it manually, as new features are rolling out gradually. Here is how to do it:" We keep hearing these are rolling out but they never seem to show up, we have force them on with ViVetool. Getting a bit tired of it.
    • Seems very lazy, so basically drain more battery power on laptops/tablets if this is turned on.
    • Edifier's popular R1280Ts bookshelf speaker can be a nice upgrade for your PC desktop audio by Sayan Sen Yesterday we covered a very nice discount on Sony's high-resolution SS-CS5M2 speakers, which are currently on sale for just $178. It packs the rather rare super tweeter that offers an additional level of clarity and "airy"-ness which a tweeter cannot provide. It's a passive speaker though which means it will require external amplification, which will cost extra. Let's say though that you have a budget of under $150 but still want a decent-sounding speaker that's active. The Edifier 1280Ts can help in this regard, as the unit is currently at a decent price of $130 (purchase link under the specs table down below). While you will not get deep sub-bass from the 1280Ts, you should get clearer vocals and highs like cymbals than a cheaper satellite-based 2.1 system. Obviously the soundstage and imaging will also improve due to the better reproduction of highs. As mentioned above, the Edifier R1280Ts is active and so does not need a separate amplifier, as it's a powered system with its own amplification. A great thing about this model is that you can add a separate active subwoofer to it too using the "sub out" option, which essentially acts like an LFE. This way, you can add in the missing deep bass. The technical specifications of the Edifier R1280Ts are given in the table below: Specification Value Total Output Power 42W RMS (21W + 21W) Driver Units 4-inch mid-range/bass driver + 0.5-inch silk diaphragm treble driver Frequency Response 52Hz – 20kHz Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) ≥85dBA Input Sensitivity Line In1: R/L: 500±50mV Line In2: R/L: 700±50mV Inputs Dual RCA inputs Outputs Sub Out port for external subwoofer Get it at the link below: Edifier R1280Ts Powered Bookshelf Speakers - 2.0 Stereo Active Near Field Monitors with Subwoofer Line Out: $129.99 (Sold by Edifier Online Store, Shipped by Amazon US) This Amazon deal is US-specific and not available in other regions unless specified. • Appreciate the focus on UI performance, but this is going the wrong way. Instead of optimizing performance, coding to lower latency, etc. this is just throwing horsepower. This is lazy.
