  1. 1. Are you getting the new Xbox 360

You don't have to bring 'everything'. Just all the cords that CAME with it.

So if I were to trade in my Elite, I'd just have to give them the following.

The system,

The A/V cable

The Powerbrick + Outlet cord

So I don't have to give them my controller? huh. Sorry guys.. I"m just trying to be clear here. I don't want to go there.. and then drive back.. waste of gas and time.

Oops! Sorry. Was trying to get my AC to work when typing this (I'm dying here!). Yes, you do need to include at least one Wired/Wireless Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller (no cheap knockoff brands).

Will edit my original post accordingly.

alright, thank you.

what is this 'microwave Ping! sound' that the drive makes?

It's the small noise it makes when you "press" the eject button so you know you did. Since the eject "button" isn't a real button (it's touch sensitive now) you need the sound to know that it registered your touch.

smigit the point would have been being able to run games in higher res, less pop in, more textures....without the cost of outright launching a new console.

but to keep this on topic, the new S models don't come with the three years? listen i may love my Xbox but even i know that's not very nice. tell me we get to keep the three year warranty. i'm sure we're not back to the days of three months, but even a year would be lowering it. please tell me it's three years still. not a deal breaker, but still...

otherwise i really want this one, but promised myself to be disciplined and wait till next month for better finances...just bought and built a desktop, gotta take things slow...

I wonder how many went out in this first batch? It seems that places that are sold out are getting more at the start of July, so Amazon might be the same? Maybe they ran out by the time you ordered online? People seem to have more luck at Best Buy it seems, I think they got more than anyone else.

Got mines today.. it sooo quiet.. my computer is louder.. hahaha.. but for sure it runs pretty hot on the vent at the top (if you are putting it horizontally... the sides are pretty cool though.

Got mines today.. it sooo quiet.. my computer is louder.. hahaha.. but for sure it runs pretty hot on the vent at the top (if you are putting it horizontally... the sides are pretty cool though.

Ya, that makes sense, the "side" vent (the big one with the fan) is where the hot air goes out, the two other ones on the sides (or top and bottom, if you will) are were cool air goes in. They basically took a page out of the PC world again, majority if PC cases, mine as well, have that side vent that goes over the CPU so the hot air off of it gets pushed out directly instead of mixing with the rest of the air in the case and trying to go out the back.

So as it stands that's the hotest part of the system directly there, the interesting bit would be if you could find out what temp the CGPU is going at right now, I'm guessing between 40C/60C, idle/load.

I was going to get one of these to replace my broken one, but I just don't feel the need anymore. The main reason I would have got it would be for easy Kinect hookup. But with Kinect being $150 now, I've completely lost interest. I think I'm just going to pick up an arcade for $140. I really don't care about it being quieter; I have fish tanks in my living room that make a hell of a lot more noise than even a 1st gen 360.

jianbing lives! thought you said you were going to get a slim when it came out? traitor...

hey mathachew thanks for confirming it's only a one year warranty, disappointing but like i said, not a deal breaker. they have my money and they know it.

OH BRIAN! indeed a nice setup, looks like someone didn't have to wait to get paid again to buy that new 360...congrats my man.

BTW i don't get why MS keep talking about whisper quiet...is the DVD drive really that much quieter? because as it is my 360 with 250GB drive is very quiet when playing games from the HDD as it is. the videos i've watched online of people opening and c losing the new console's optical drive didn't sound much quieter than the current one. strange they highlight this but not the fact that it's smaller and runs cooler.

Gave it to my son to put in his bedroom. cool.gif

Right on.. I totally forgot..

I forgot you were the guy with the man cave :p Awesome set up.

Same here.. totally forgot.. MANCAVE.. One does not simply enter the MANCAVE.

The difference is, the noise level your 360 makes while playing from the HDD is the default noise level of the new 360, while playing from the DVD :)

mine has no sound at all.

    • NASA: This asteroid may not kill us but it probably won't be far off either by Sayan Sen Image by Zelch Csaba via Pexels New observations by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope have eliminated the last remaining impact threat posed by asteroid 2024 YR4, ruling out the possibility that the near-Earth object could strike the Moon in December 2032. NASA said observations collected by Webb on February 18 and 26, 2026, enabled scientists to refine the asteroid's orbit enough to "rule out a chance of lunar impact on Dec. 22, 2032." Instead, asteroid 2024 YR4 is now expected to pass the Moon at a distance of about 13,200 miles (21,200 km). The agency stressed that the update "reflects improved precision in our understanding of where the asteroid is expected to be in 2032 rather than a shift in its orbital path." The announcement closes a remarkable chapter in planetary defence that began in late 2024, when the approximately 60-metre-wide asteroid briefly became the most closely watched near-Earth object in the world. Discovered on December 27, 2024, by the ATLAS telescope in Chile, 2024 YR4 initially appeared to have a small chance of colliding with Earth on December 22, 2032. As astronomers gathered more observations, the impact probability briefly climbed to around 3%—the highest ever recorded for an asteroid of its size—before steadily falling as its orbit became better understood. By early 2025, international observations had ruled out any significant risk to Earth. However, astronomers were left with another possibility: a roughly 4% chance that the asteroid could instead strike the Moon. "The probability that asteroid 2024 YR4 will strike the Moon on 22 December 2032 is now approximately 4%," the European Space Agency (ESA) had said last year, noting that "there is a 96% chance that the asteroid will not impact the Moon." ESA said such an impact, while unlikely, would have presented an extraordinary scientific opportunity. "It is a very rare event for an asteroid this large to impact the Moon – and it is rarer still that we know about it in advance. The impact would likely be visible from Earth, and so scientists will be very excited by the prospect of observing and analysing it," said Richard Moissl, Head of ESA's Planetary Defence Office. "It would certainly leave a new crater on the surface. However, we wouldn't be able to accurately predict in advance how much material would be thrown into space, or whether any would reach Earth," he added. The asteroid also exposed an important blind spot in planetary defence. Because 2024 YR4 approached Earth from the direction of the Sun, it remained hidden from ground-based telescopes until after its closest approach. "We looked into how Neomir would have performed in this situation, and the simulations surprised even us," Moissl said. "Neomir would have detected asteroid 2024 YR4 about a month earlier than ground-based telescopes did. This would have given astronomers more time to study the asteroid's trajectory and allowed them to much sooner rule out any chance of Earth impact in 2032." He added, "As an infrared telescope, like Webb, Neomir would have also immediately given us a much better estimate for the asteroid's size, which is very important for assessing the significance of the hazard." The latest NASA observations underscore the value of space-based infrared telescopes in tracking faint asteroids. According to NASA, Webb made "among the faintest ever observations of an asteroid," extending the object's observational record by nearly eight months at a time when it had become too faint for other telescopes. That additional data allowed scientists to eliminate the remaining uncertainty surrounding its 2032 flyby. Although asteroid 2024 YR4 is now confirmed to pose no threat to either Earth or the Moon, scientists say its discovery remains one of the most significant real-world tests of the international planetary defence system, demonstrating how continued observations can rapidly transform an object once considered hazardous into one whose future path is known with high confidence. • Yup. Google is just scraping the entire internet for their own ad profits without sharing revenue with the sources. It's obviously stealing, but since these sites depend upon Google's search scraps to survive... As for me, I just stopped using Google for anything except Reddit searches. If Reddit's own search wasn't complete crapola, I'd never use Google search again.
