Windows Live Essentials 'beta' out now!

I'll try that. But the thing is, it's supposed to be social and show friend pages. Not every single friend page. So I'm gonna have to hide a lot. And it shows more than Facebook itself.

If I look on WLM, near 90% of the posts on it are from Fanpages and then the rest from friends.

But Go on Facebook, and most of them fanpage posts are not on my feed, but loads of friend posts.

I've just been using the Windows Live Messenger beta and noticed that if you hover over a story from a page, you can hide that page from showing up within Messenger. For the time being, you could just do that for every page you see? Without having to hide anything, I'm still getting about half pages and half friends in my social feed, so I'm happy with that :)

That does not work effectively. I select hide "I use music to escape from my problems" and select hide updates from "I use music to escape from my problems".But it just links to the live sign in page and let's me choose what I see. Which is no help.

So far it's been working great. I just have one complaint. I used to like being able to right click on the messenger icon in the taskbar and have it show how many emails I had. It also gave me the ability to click on it and open Windows Live Mail to read my email. Now I have to restore the Messenger window to check and click on the Inbox button. Is there somewhere I can post a suggestion for Microsoft?

Here. They do listen, I asked them to implement webcam pausing back (And it got returned in the Refresh). And hoping for Video call volume to return too. But post there, and see what they say. Most of the time, they say they will pass it on to the product team. And say they will see if it will be included in a future release. (Hopefully either Beta 3/RC/Final)

Is there any way to remove the Ads at the bottom?

a patch will replace them with a still image box, but at this point there is no way to completely remove it.

It also removes the ad links frm the chat windows

I have a question regardin Windows Live Mail.

Is there a way to change how the original messages are quoted when replying? I'd like it to be similar to how Thunderbird and gmail.com with the original message preceded with ">" in each line.

The same thing with replying to a newsgroup - the original message is quoted without the >'s.

Is there a way to change it? I can't find any options like this and google doesn't help either.

so, did anyone have this problem making messenger useless? I got all the other programs to install & work fine in the end.

Yes I have that problem at work. I'm behind an ISA 2006 Proxy Server with the ISA 2006 Firewall Client installed, have a rule to allow "All Outbound traffic" out. So not sure why it does not work while the previous version worked fine. :(

at least I'm not the only one  oh well, I'll just wait for the next beta or final, I hardly use messenger anymore anyway, but it would be nice if it actually signed in.

Wasn't there supposed to be a beta refresh released today? I thought I read that somewhere.

Someone posted it's on the 10th of September when WLM Essentials 2011 hits RC (public milestone), but I don't know where he got that info from.

    • Shocker! It would be crazy to be ready to introduce a "fold" phone but have no plans happening for a followup model.
    • XBOX is at the end of its generational life cycle and wasn't selling much anyway. They need to figure out the pricing for XBOX Helios. However, I'm not buying the DRAM shortage with AI preferring HBM. I think it's industry gouging.
