so I just saw Gamespot's Now Playing preview of GT5.. so far.. not really impressed. So much potential though. I'd thought with all the delays that would've ironed this stuff out.

what's wrong with it? I can't watch that while at work :(

what's wrong with it? I can't watch that while at work :(

The biggest problem when I was watching it earlier was they were using a dual shock controller (DERRR). The feed quality was meh as well. It probably is a poor representation of the game.

I noticed in the Kart video, there was no slow down when the Kart when through the grass on the S curves. realmad.gif

NeoGAF torn them a new one because of the amount of BS he said

No custom soundtracks.

Tracks are nothing special

Cockpit view is stupid

Premium cars look no better than Forza 3

Drifiting is unrealistic, unlike NFS:

Visually nothing special

Sixaxis does "stuff"

Damage modeling is only on race cars

Citreon C4 WRC isn't for snow

All tracks were optionally dirt tracks on GT4

Basically seems like you didn't miss much, I turned it off cause the stream quality was pants.

Well I'm just dissapointed. Like the car models should look really good, even if it's not a premium car, at least it should look good. So I guess they went quantity instead of quality eh? The Track editor is so limited to what you can do. You can change certain sections of a track but it's not like you can go in and customize it.. Everything is pre-done and you choose a selection. The Colour selection of cars is a wtf. So once you buy a car, you unlock one of the colours. But you can only use that colour once on another car. :s As for Drifting.. Calvert just sucks at drifting

From another guy at GTPlanet.net that has been playing the game (in regards to the standard cars):

I would say standard car looks in menu/photomode/replay like FM2 cars but when you race against them, they look like upped to HD GT PSP cars, that's how I feel so far for them. Also some seems a bit better than other.

thanks for the update boys (Y)

and drifting unrealistic compared to shift? have they tried drifting in shift? it was effin impossible. I had an easier time doing it in real life with my buddy's beater car... i avoided drift like the plague in NFS Shift.

and from that list AB, they definitely sound like they don't know what they are talking about.

Someone tell Gamespot this

(GT5 will only accept 48, 42 and 20.05 sample-rate files) uploaded to your PS3 music Library, in separate folder. Once uploaded, you go to GT5 Options/Sound menu and then choose User BGM

How hard is it to go to the options/sound menu....

Apparently too hard for them. They must have picked the biggest dolts on staff to show off GT5. Sometimes you have to wonder what the management team is thinking.

What is your set-up? Do you just have it attached to your desk or on your lap?

It's attached to my desk, and the wheel is literally inches from the TV. :p I did try clamping it to my dad's workbench, but it was too thick, so I went with the desk, and it works really well. :)

I presume this is going to be one hell of the review-opinion-rollercoaster. And at the end, everything comes to this simple question and answer to it:

What do YOU find important?

There are so many variables to be made when going deep into Gran Turismo 5, and I can safely say that less than 10% of actual players will experience the real magic of this game.

I went different way than almost everybody whose reviews I have read have, and I really can't understand what has become important in gaming today.

At this point I'm at the Lv 16 of my career. I have spent initial 4 days in golding all Licenses and doing Special Event races in the order they were unlocking. I almost haven't raced any A/B-Spec race (only initial Sunday Cup) in order to finish what is the Core of the GT5 experience first - before online launches on 24th.

My setting s are all-assists OFF, ABS on 1, cockpit view (all in-game races are done with premium cars) and I drive with G25 (no clutch) - only assists can be those forced by game (Skid Recovery Force in Licenses and sometimes in certain races of Special Events).

At this point I managed to gold al 60 Licenses and to gold majority of Special Events races I have available. And this initial week I consider to be the best virtual racing week of my life. I do not care about jagged leafs in shadows, occasional slowdowns in rare circumstances or pixelated graphics for few moments when volumetric smoke kicks-in.

I care about having the most precise force feedback effect ever witnessed in video-gaming, overwhelming sensation of tire-grip and weight-transfer, beautiful sceneries on every corner, crazy sounds of cars on my 5.1 surround and that special feeling of real feel of the surface under the wheels that no other game has accomplished to provide. And yes, I also speak about Uber-Race of PC world All-Stars.

Fight against the torque, tires and rear-axle of Ferrari 512BB on Rome track during I-C 10 License is magic.

All Licenses in S class - One Lap Magic races - are phenomenal experience - from Monza, over LeMans, Madrid or Top Gear Track. Lexus IS-F on LeMans, with cockpit view, force feedback on 8 and maxxed-out surround - everyone who ever thought for a second that cars and driving are good thing should experience that.

And then came Special Event races. Top Gear Challenges, Tier 2. Level 8 needed. 2 lap battle against 11 Lotus Elises 111R - you start as car #12 - on N1 tires and no assists. You can't ignore the cruelty of AI, the cruelty of grip and insanity of tire-snap. It is the GT5 at it's best so far, jewel in the crown of 25 years of virtual racing existence.

And than comes Grand Tour Races, with striking drive of F430 Scuderia on Monza in Ferrari Manufacturer's Race, followed by what is the most thrilling "non-racing-track" experience in my 13 years of playing Gran Turismo -point-to-point race on Toscana Night with Murcielago LP640 on R2 tires, 3 minutes of pure horror while track fades from sunset to full-dark while fireworks rips the starry sky above. Trial and error. Catching the F40 before the fierce middle straight in order to catch Scuderia in the last corner before the finish line.

And last, but not least, whole supremacy of Nordschelife in AMG Driving School. Everything in both Licenses and Special Events is Gran Turismo reborn. It is 1997 all over again, everything is old-school, everything is pure finesse and crazy knowledge of car, tires, track and brakes. Gran Turismo at it's finest ever. And somebody talks about shadows? Leafs? Standard cars? You have to be ignorant in driving and racing and really love your controller in order to have priorities in such a deeply wrong order.

But whatever. Answer at the initial question will be crucial on the subjective front. You have to know what is important to you. As always in the life.

On the other hand, do yo have any idea who is this guy?

I got him as a

Picture Exclusive hidden trophy. Trophy says he's somebody special. How special?

Thanx for sharing a knowledge.

BTW Fanatec wheel works flawlessly, tested few minutes ago with 911 Turbo S and Clubsport Pedals, here is what my friend Dzidza have to say:

Ok, first things first, it works perfectly right of the hat. There is no need to press triangle to activate the clutch, if you don't want to use the clutch and h shifter, and shift through floppy pedals, it automatically engages clutch for you, so you can concentrate on braking, and acceleration :-). The best settings that i found is ingame FFB at 3, PWTS FFB 50%, Drift settings 2, 900 deg., ABS 100%, shock 100%. For some reason if you put ingame settings to more then 5, than i couldn't feel good when going over red/white curbs.

So, Fanatec users or potential customers - have no fear. The firmware is the same as the latest at 911 GT3 RS V2, so it will be no problem there too.

Thanx for read, regards to all.

See you online in days to come, I can't wait for professional reviews made on the same day when whole Community portion - with still undisclosed features that even SCE London have no idea about - will be launched.

hype hype!

The thing is in comparison it is still going to be chucking up to 16 cars on the track. Something no other console racing game has done with such graphical finesse. There were always going to be things that were less than perfect. But from a now ?200 machine, what it is doing is breathtaking.

    • I think the car analogy is more this: Left hand drive, basic commands on the left side of the infotainment screen. Right hand drive, basic commands on the right side of the infotainment screen. Granted, you're not swapping between the two often so it's doesn't really work. But it's to do with the proximity of you (your mouse, or the driver) to the controls.
    • I mean, the old one was broken and so stupidly complex for many users, so I don't see that as a feasible option. A context menu needs to be simple to use, and for me the Windows 11 style actually worked really well for me, and many others. I used to have to scroll the damn context menu just to get to "file properties" in Windows 10. That was not a good experience, and I'm sure you'd agree. What they're trying to do is make it the best of both worlds, as clearly you'd prefer the Win10 style. I'm curious how they're going to do this.
    • The "Show more options" has its place, as does the simpler context menu, but it should perhaps be a separate fly-out rather than relaunching the entire, old context menu. The old context menu was getting absurd in Windows 10. Often I'd have to make the context menu scroll just to get to "File properties" on my old laptop. Even without much installed, the amount of items was just too much. It's a context menu, not a "do all" menu. Making it configurable is fraught with challenges too, so I'm interested to see how Microsoft tackles this one.
    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
