It's not THAT bad!

Yes it is. The game has no content and just consists of either driving about or bog standard cover based shooting and it does neither very well. As I said, it feels like an 8 year old game. We may have raved about it back then but that was before Vice City and co came along.

Agreed, I've been playing for 6 hours, more or less, and I'm dropping it, it's bland, boring, repetitive and the story is definitively shallow (N)

I like it. I think it has an interesting story, kind of like watching a movie. I enjoy the fighting and the shooting, the guns are nice to shoot and sound good. My only complaint is too much driving, but it's not a big problem.

Everyone has their own taste n all that..

i got a bit bored of driving, until i switched on simulation mode in chapter 2, then by chapter 6 it got boring again, and i started driving only real nice powered cars, that are fully upgraded.

no more boring driving!!! i can make my driving as exciting as i want it to be, pulling crazy stunts, without hitting anything. feels great.

story is nice too. i give it a solid 7/10 for fun level i am having. and, unlike the review, it does not mean its ok, it means its very very good.

most recent games i played get 5 and less. very few games are 8+ for me, and most of them are older games.

well it asked for a custom install.

and i beat it in a single sitting.

9hrs play. oh.. and great game.

the ending disappointed me the most :(

it was going up and up and up.. and then instead of a blast. it was a leak.

im tired..

gota sleep...

So, my copy finally arrived today.

Unfortunately I had to 'settle' for the Bonus Edition, apparently the Collector's Edition won't be hitting Danish stores either, it was suddenly removed and I was given some discount points and an apology, told to re-order another version.

I've been playing for around 4 hours or so and reached Chapter 8, conclusion? Such an amazing game! I was a bit nervous with the whole K&L2 farce I had with a decent demo and a disappointing retail but the retail version of Mafia II is just leaps and bounds beyond the demo, because obviously, you get the rest of the goodies.

I will say the story is the game's weakest point as it has some lose ends, lacks some finesse but it does quite alright and as you progress, it gets a bit more interesting, definitely want to see how it pans out. As for the rest of the game, I'm astounded! Feels like a developer that cares. The graphics are fantastic, now I finally got to see snow, night-time and all that, it's amazing. The lights at night are so beautifully done, the dirt on the cars that builds up, the feel of the cars ( on simulation mode at least ) - Everything feels so alive.

Voice acting is also good, there's especially some funny scenes / events later on that gave me a good laugh  I just love that 'serious' take on the game, loads of driving, has that nice authentic feel to it when you get down to the more mundane levels - Adds so much to the immersion. I could understand why some doesn't like all the driving or the more slow, serious approach to the gameplay but that is so up my street (Y)

But I could sing my praises all day for this game, all I can say is, this is a major GOTY contender for me personally - Nice to finally see some quality games among all the rubbish.

almost beat the game, I love it so far. My only major issues are the AI drivers are mentally retarded. Traffic seems to go out of its way to slam into me which then gets me chased by cops.

Haha yeah, the traffic does seem to ignore you quite often

I have this tendency not to wanna scratch up my cars, so I tend to drive carefully ( Yeah yeah, shh :p ) and crossing an intersection with no stop-lights will grow hair on the chest

Yeah half the time they never even brake at all, just simply pulling out into the street carefully my car gets slammed into out of nowhere lol. I also dont usually like my cars scratched up, so half the time I pull out into the street its like

"ok lets do this mission son *SMASH*"

"GODDAMN SON OF THE BITCH ****"

I'm two thirds of the way through and it keeps getting better. I don't mind all the driving now because I have some nice convertibles, which is actually making me drive carefully, this is the first time I've tried to take care of my car in a game like this, lol. One suggestion for the traffic is beeping the horn, they tend to get out of your way most of the time.

I love the shotty.

I must admit though, the cops are pretty frikkin ridiculous when it comes to speeding & how many there are. I mean were there really that many cops back then?

It's probably to stop people from hammering down everywhere, to keep some of the authenticity. I did try to drive legally but in the long run it gets a bit tedious, now I just put the pedal to the metal and whenever a blue square shows up on the radar up ahead I slam the breaks till I get below 40 and just go past 'em.

On Chapter 8 and haven't had any police chasing me due to speeding in the game yet.

I do also have to give credit to the sound team at 2K Czech, they did an awesome job on everything! I just drove a Hot Rod and they sound amazing, a real pleasure to just rev the engine and hear it purr :D Also the .38 Snub sounds awesome, like it packs a massive punch - One of the best gun firing noises I've heard in a game for a very long time.

I hate that the police don't chase you if you don't stop at a red light. That was one of many little things that made first Mafia feel so realistic.

BTW For all people who didn't bother looking for all playboys - obviously NSFW <<snipped>>

No Graphic Material of either a macabre or pornographic nature.

They don't? Aw, what a shame.

Thanks for the link, I can't be arsed looking for them - I do however like looking at them

Oh and a suggestion for all the ATi users wanting to use the PhysX / APEX performance 'trick' ( Removing all cloth files except Vito's ), look through the Effects folder and remove all the files starting with "Hit" in all folders and also every filed named something with Crazy Horse. I had two levels that killed my PC because of all the crappy debris, the warehouse level from the demo and the crazyhorse shot-up, which is also debris hell - Killed my performance completely.

With those removed you get to keep everything else PhysX / APEX related and that doesn't take too much of a performance hit.

    • Microsoft brings Planner Agent to all Microsoft 365 Copilot users by Ivan Jenic Image: Microsoft Microsoft has announced that Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot is now generally available to all users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Planner Agent is the latest addition in the string of AI features that Microsoft is implementing across virtually all of its products. The agent lets you manage tasks through natural language prompts directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. You can create and update tasks, check priorities, and get insights about current entries without leaving the chat interface. The general availability release comes with a handful of new additions on top of what was available during the initial rollout. A new plan picker lets you search and filter your plans by name, then update task names, statuses, due dates, or priorities through the agent. There's also a goals bucket now, which lets you group tasks under specific goals. This builds on the Goals view, a feature that was introduced as part of the broader Planner refresh that rolled out earlier. Image: Microsoft | Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot All AI-generated plans and tasks are created in draft mode by default, so you can review and approve changes before anything goes through. This is actually a thoughtful safety feature, because trusting AI to handle all your tasks without a human in the loop is usually a recipe for disaster. Having tasks initially saved as drafts is the best possible middle ground. Microsoft also says that not all tasks are executed equally. Simple tasks get processed quickly, while more complex ones, like building a plan from a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file, are handed to a more capable model. Microsoft says this approach delivers the best performance, but it could also help with usage management, as you won't have to waste tokens on performing simple tasks. Planner Agent is available now across Teams, Loop, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 apps for anyone on a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
    • To be clear I'm anti trump, the bigger point is why review this game at all?
    • Trillion dollar Microsoft has to reduce spending by hurting more people. Good job Microsoft. Good Job Asha.
