Wow what an awesome game - havent completed yet, am at 60% - how many % is finish?

I feels like I am playing the movie goodfellas and pulp fiction :D

You'll be finished before you know it... the % also includes all collectibles etc which are over 30%.

Only 10%? I'm only up to chapter 6 but this doesn't seem like a sequel to me, it feels like a remake and apart from teh story line, I may as well be playing Mafia 1 :/

No offence but, what a load of rubbish.

What should they have done differently, yes the games share some similarities due to being sequel to each other and the fact they are made by the same developer but the game is a worthy sequel in all the areas. Car handling got a nice overhaul, Mafia didn't have this sort of suspension on the cars, didn't have this excellent feel of the car and how it reacted through various road conditions. Graphics engine looks gorgeous, the city looks good, weather looks fantastic and the entire atmosphere in the game is just quality.

Should they have added perks, killstreaks, ability to call your friends from a 1950s luggage phone, fly planes, what?

For the first time in years I'm actually surprised by much of the negative vibes towards a game. I went into this with an already 'tainted' view from all the whiners and I have seen NONE of it. The game fully lives up to the Mafia name and the quality standard set by the first game except the story which is great but doesn't have the same immersion and quality writing as the first game did - But it works.

I think it's sad to see such a quality game get the stick, seems like most people have a hard time dealing with a game that doesn't have the ADHD-syndrome most games have these days; instant action, fast travel and lots of random.

Nice to see a few Neowin members actually enjoy a quality title with a more mature gameplay style.

These sort of games is a dying breed.

anybody got the DLC??

made man??

the suit and cars are awesome!!!...

but i wish there were actually some new missions in it.

Yeah, the Made Man pack is awesome - Some quality threads and cars in that pack, I wear those clothes all the time

Wait for "Jimmy's Vendetta" - Quite a few achievements for that DLC, it's advertised on the back of the DLC card I got, should be arriving soon.

Oh and on the DLC card, they printed "Man Made" instead of "Made Man" funny little oopsie.

Mafia 2 Freeride mod!

Got bored after finishing the game? Then look no further!

Someone called 'Costa' was kind enough to do 2K Czech's work for them by adding a freeride option to the menu.

Just put 'gui-main.sds' in the /pc/sds_en/gui/ directory. Please be sure to backup the original file and savegames.

I'm in Chapter 12 now. The graphics are really great, and the car and character models look spectacular, as does the lighting, how the sun reflects off the tarmac, etc... superb, really. Aside from that, the game is a total derivative of the first game, some of the missions are similar to the ones in the first, only they come in a different order. Same can be said of the story (so far anyway), it's a bit less romanticized than the first and leans a bit more to Goodfellas than The Godfather (and I'm of the opinion the latter is very much superior), the writing isn't as good as the first, and at times comes across as forced, and the main character is dull as a dishwasher, and utterly wooden. The story doesn't draw you in as much as the first does, but the high production values and atmosphere are splendid enough for the game to absorb you. This is the reason why boring chores like moving crates around and selling cigarettes don't actually feel boring. The city looks so much more ravishing than the drab Liberty City of GTA IV. It's just that much more satisfying to drive and take in the atmosphere in this game than any other 'sandbox' game I've played. The story is actually beginning to sound interesting now, so hopefully it ends on a high note. Oh and the game runs flawlessly on my midrange PC, with resolution of 1980x1080 and everything at max and Physx turned off. GTA IV runs like a cow.

It really is just the first Mafia done less well in every aspect except the visuals, and I'm enjoying it a lot. A testament to how brilliant the first is.

P/S: Anyone got a link to the whole set of Playboy centerfolds? :D The first few I saw were a bit too... old fashioned for me, but some of them look really nice.

    • Nice rant! Expletive after expletive after expletive. Poor petal, I've touched a nerve. Would you like a tissue to wipe those tears away. Btw, nice one calling Neowin trash. Why would you stick around when you disrespect this site and the people behind it? Just go away if you feel that way.
