PS3 finally hacked?

Recommended Posts

yeah i noticed that thought people were getting the price form that other site my mistake.

Can i ask again why would you want to back up your games?

I would just like to have my games on the PS3's HDD for quicker loading times and convenience but I've invested too much money in the PS3 to risk using this dongle.

I know how it works, which is amazingly clever. But Someone has effectively sold Sony down the river.

There will be implications for developers. They will be asked to re-register and the keys will be changed. There will be a patch that modifies the PS3's boot sequence. No functionality should be lost, but it will be an ongoing battle.

Sony will also include code on retail discs that requires the new FW for them to run. They'll easilly have that sorted by the time GT5 releases.

If you were smart your disc/s wouldn't get lost, damaged, stolen, etc.

Not true at all

The laser from the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 will eventually burn scratches into a disc if the game is played long enough. Nothing dumb done there.....it is just what naturally will happen

If you were smart, you'd know that discs can get damaged from normal use.

I've seen some of my originals become unplayable from nothing other than normal use. And i'm always very careful with my products.

Considering how hard it is to scratch Blu Ray discs that excuse probably won't pedal well on Neowin rofl.gif

And it's not like Neowin is cluttered with topics discussing dirty/scratched and broken PS3 discs... wink.gif

*sigh* the fact of the matter is-is that they can be scratched....they can be damaged.....and can be stolen if someone really wants to steal one rolleyes.gif

I've played Demons Souls for nearly 100 hours and the disc is mint rofl.gif

Please don't tell me I need to play for 200 hours? :(

not if you're careful.

*sigh* It will happen because the PS3 uses a laser to read a disc and this in itself will eventually burn a scratch into the disc. This is a FACT. There is no amount of being careful that will prevent that from happening. Whether it happens 1 hr into a game or 300 hrs it will still happen

End of story.

I was also referring to the fact of sweat. I've got some very old discs here that have rust spots in them due to that. I just have naturally sweaty hands.

Okay, so I can wipe off my discs and handle with gloves...

Lets get serious - the point is, being smart is about having a backup. For whatever reason.

I also agree with that

But if it happens 1 hour in you can return it!

Indeed you can shifty.gif

WTF do you do with your PS3 discs? Molest the disc with your hands before insertion? laugh.gif

Hate to break it to you but the laser wont be burning scratches to disk... however at the speed they spin at, foreign matter in the air i.e. dust can collide and cause micro scratches

Also a jolt to the unit where the disk can collide internally would also cause this

ok i challenge you to find me an article in which someone is complaining that the laser has caused damage to his or her discs.

    • they should stop making bad games that no one asked for
    • Nice rant! Expletive after expletive after expletive. Poor petal, I've touched a nerve. Would you like a tissue to wipe those tears away. Btw, nice one calling Neowin trash. Why would you stick around when you disrespect this site and the people behind it? Just go away if you feel that way.

    • This is of course "clickbait" WTF? It is literally your example but tech based. A "clickbait" title is a sensationalized headline designed to manipulate readers into clicking a link using things like "fear" rather than delivering objective facts. A "clickbait" headline also usually provides little value compared to the hype generated. How does this headline not qualify? It's a generic often reused headline that is overly sensationalized. Oh no! "millions" can't use this app anymore. It has no basic facts like what f*cking app. You read the article and it's the Samsung VPN which no one cares about and there is a million free VPNs. How are you defending this ######? Headlines like this (and among other things) make me read Neowin much less than I used to in the past. It's trash...
