PS3 finally hacked?

Recommended Posts

It IS a software exploit.

They are injecting boot code to bypass security & run the PS3 under dev conditions.

They aren't 'injecting' boot code, it's just a clone of the USB tools the repair centres have.

The only custom code is the ISO dumper, and that's able to run as unsigned code can run in dev mode.

For technicians and devs they aren't injecting anything because they aren't retail consoles. For us the boot code is different though and it has to be swapped. That is why it requires you to press the eject button as you turn it on. Devs won't have to do that.

This JIG CARD(aka USB DONGLE) is used for devs and technicians from sony to launch BOOT INI from DEV_USB0.

Combining some buttons you can change the SYSCON status, who launch as a primary boot this dongle.

BOOTSTRAP is read and the files from dongle are launched and the RAM is making a false REBOOT.

The whole thing its an SYSCON FIRMWARE EMULATOR.

TRM "thinks" we have a debug unit and KERNEL DEBUG is loaded.

Either way my point is to that kid the exploit is software, and yeah it's very easy for Sony to block usb access at boot up.

Yup they can, BUT it could cause problems with their PlayTV device when the machine boots itself to record, as the PlayTV program will not run unless it recognises that it's plugged in via USB.

Looks like somone's opened one up:

Looking at it, it might just be a bit of flash memory on there and nothing "special"... interesting! Is there any definate confirmation it IS a cloned jig key yet? I know it's likely but I've not seen hard proof yet, just pure speculation.

For the PlayTV thing, I'll have to try it. I can start the PlayTV app without the TV tuner plugged in, but it won't let me do anything when booted, just gives a warning. I've never set a recording without it plugged in though. Could be nothing, or could stop Sony from potentially fixing this.

So the unhackable ps3 has really been hacked their goes my faith for the 3ds ah the days of real ideas like game cube mini disks....

You do realize, don't you, that the Game Cube mini discs were easily copied and played with a modchip?

To be fair, I'll believe NTFS when I see it. It's long overdue. As for file sizes, fair enough for smaller PSN titles, but stuff like Fallout 3, or 'proper' on disc titles, if this is loading iso files (hence, single contiguous, large), they can easily exceed 4GB.

Excuse my ignorance, and if this has already been mentioned.

But how are you going to load 50GB BD iso files from a fat32 external USB drive which by architectural limitation can only support a maximum file size of 4GB.

...jus sayin'

Because it's not packed as an ISO, it'll be all the individual files and assets.

In case your disc/s are lost, damaged, stolen, etc.

It's a smart move.

Not true at all

The laser from the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 will eventually burn scratches into a disc if the game is played long enough. Nothing dumb done there.....it is just what naturally will happen

If you were smart, you'd know that discs can get damaged from normal use.

I've seen some of my originals become unplayable from nothing other than normal use. And i'm always very careful with my products.

Well it's not like they're made of diamond...

Yeah, if someone can show anything otherwise, fair enough. But I'd be fairly sure that as a logical design, it would be an iso, or at least some kind of image file (bin or sony proprietary format).

Then go back through the thread and watch a disc being ripped. It's copying the directories directly, not creating an image.

Apparently you can't apply game updates to an installed game, that's a massive fail right there :/

I could care less if this worked on ps3 games. We should be buying those. If not, we lose out of a great system and greater games later. What this would be great though, is if you could use it to play old ps2 games and emulators with ease. That would make it totally worth it.

I don't think many people are going to risk their PSN accounts/PS3s over PS2 emulation.

Eh, id unhook from the internet before firing it up to play them though :p but ya, would suck for that to happen.

The reality of it though is someone still has to create an emulator and well how easy is it going to be to port/create applications for CELL? wacko.gif

    • Supposedly it's fixed on Series consoles: https://support.forza.net/hc/e...e-Issues-in-Forza-Horizon-6 This game is so much better than FH5, and it's all because of the map. It's diverse, big, and so much to see and do. I've bought every single Forza Motorsport and Horizon game, and by far my least played is FH5 at 100 hours, followed by the latest Motorsport. They've finally made a good one with FH6
    • Sorry to be that guy but, Given Trump won again even after a failed first term it would appear attacking the other side is how to gain Government in America. Voters when it came down to it didn't give a s**t about those Democratic achievements and voted for Trump over an intelligent, qualified mixed race woman. We need to face up to this uncomfortable reality. There are more Americacan voters who support racism and christian bigotry along with defending and supporting pedophilia, adjudicated rapists, multiple time convicted felons etc than those who don't. Btw, that is how the world sees America now. Not that Trump voters care as they attempt to cocoon themselves in a white supremacy bubble.
    • That's not clickbait. Clickbait is headlines like, "You'll never guess what this person looks like now" for example. For goodness sake, take a look around the internet if you think this is clickbait. How do sites survive if people don't click through to articles? How many people in all honesty would have clicked this if it had your suggested headline? You and those upvoting your post won't be happy until the web is a couple of hundred websites all behind a paywall.
