IE9 download available!

Is anyone else having a problem on here when clicking the "go to first unread post" or w/e it's called next to a threads title? Instead of jumping to the first new post since I was last in a thread it just goes to the top of the page.

Press Alt -> Tools -> Internet Options -> The "Settings" button next to Tabs -> Uncheck "Show previews for individual tabs..."

You can skip a step by using the gear icon in the upper-right. Internet Options is available in there now.

Is the 64-bit version actually 64-bit? All of the iexplore processes are running in 32-bit according to task manager...

it's the same as before, in your all programs menu there will be 2 listings,

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer (64-bit)

Ya, it seems IE9b1 doesn't like something with my system because now I have a funky graphics glitch with any menus I click on. I might go back to IE8 in a few days, I dunno. It is nice and fast though and I like the performance.

It would be nice if you could shrink the address bar down as far as it goes, which is about the same size as a tab, but then when you go to use it it would auto expand so you can read more of it. It doesn't seem to do that though, it would be nice. I have 8 tabs open atm, and it's fine really, a bit weird but if you don't really care about how small you make the address bar you have a good chunk of room (depending on your screen res and window size).

That's a good idea. I thought of it too... Gear>Send feedback. :)

Enabling InPrivate Filtering by default doesn't work any more. :(

I'm betting they moved the setting location somewhere else. You can hit Ctrl+Shift-F to turn it on when you start the browser until it's sorted.

I'm really liking IE9 so far.

Finally, a download manager. Too bad it doesn't show the download speed.

They had it in Windows Longhorn's Internet Explorer :p I don't know why they scrapped the idea until now. It didn't show the download speed either.

I simply can't use this.

There are far too many features that I consider to be vital to a Web browser that are missing here. Spell check? None. Saving a session when you close? Nope. Showing your download speed in the download manager? Not there. A password manager? Not on this browser.

Not only that, but for me it just doesn't operate well. It routinely misses keystrokes I've made when I'm typing into a field, and I have no clue why. Overall, it has a good look (but that could use a few tweaks, too, such as the tabs), but the functionality simply sucks. Maybe it renders things extremely well, too, but if it isn't easy to use and lacks common features, I ain't using it.

Sorry, Microsoft. You tried. But it seems like instead of starting from scrap you just threw a new coat of paint on it.

The browser automatically saves the session when you close. It does have autocomplete, so it has a password manager... just not the one you're looking for.

Has anyone noticed that when IE 9 32-bit version just crashes upon starting after having used the 64-bit version for a while? I also can't even open the download manager in the 64-bit version.

It has no password manager. A password manager allows you to manage your passwords. Saving passwords is not the same as managing them.

What... the... f*** is this? Installed and restarted my PC, got my PC booted back up and tried to load IE9 x32... Nothing loads at first. So I open Google Chrome (IE took approx. 5 seconds to start up, Chrome took less than 1 second) and it loaded my usual websites... I go back to IE 9 and refresh and bam the page loads.... slowly. I go to Neowin (I'm on IE9 right now) and everything renders slowly still! Ugh--- speed in IE9, where are you!? I'm hating the tab placement too... the UI is slick though, it's pretty, but they need to figure out what they're doing with this address bar and the tabs... they can't leave them there or I'm never going to switch back to IE full time.

Good effort Microsoft; much more to work on though. Hopefully by final release this will shape up to not only look better, but render faster and boot up quicker.

EDIT: Does anyone else get an issue on Facebook where it has a small window pop up saying you're using an "older version of Internet Explorer, please upgrade for best results on Facebook.com" or something like that?

    • The FIFA World Cup is not US centric.
    • It’s amusing how Microsoft is pushing IT admins as if this was a major, game-changing update. In reality, it’s just an enablement package that bumps the build number, which is disappointing compared to the more substantial 22H2 and 24H2 releases. Technically, 25H2, 26H1, and the upcoming 26H2 are essentially the same, differing only in support schedules. They could have included the Windows K2 improvements here, but chose not to. The era of Windows being in the backburner continues, and this 26H2 release feels like an afterthought. Shame, Nadella, shame.
    • Microsoft, totally not confusing /s 25H2 - Current for non-Arm based Windows 26H1 - Current for Arm based Windows 26H2 - Only for non Arm Windows
    • After I installed those, my older but capable Win 11 laptop (16GB RAM) reported it as 26H2 26300.8697. Then I installed it on my big laptop (128GB RAM! Hehe sorry), it reported it as 25H2 26220.8690. Ugh. Do I have to switch Insiders channels from Release to Beta?
