[Official] Fallout New Vegas

Recommended Posts

I bought it today, it crashed, corrupted my save.. so now I'll have to start over again. :[

One thing I have noticed is the difficulty. You tend to get bombarded with enemies from an opposite faction and it's pretty hard to kill them all. :[

So I've been reading about you guys complaining about Fallout bugs, but never really understood what it was all about since I've never (on both F3 and NV) experienced them......Till today...

Bug 1

Bug2

Game freezes during loading (which forces me to restart my xbox)

Nothing that a simple load or restart won't fix but it get a tad annoying when it happens every time you play the game.

I love how easy it is to get distracted and lost away in side quests and exploring in these types of games. I have been able to go to the vegas strip for 2-3 days now and still have yet to set foot on the strip and continue on with the main story. I really want to go to the strip and do some of the achievements but Im so caught up in exploring all the undiscovered locations and finding loot. Great game content wise. Performance wise like many have already stated, buggy as hell. I have had a few game lock-ups, VATS not activating sometimes, NPCs stuck in level geometry, etc. Obsidian should have put more working into fixing some of the more serious flaws with the engine. Hopefully for the next Fallout/Elder Scrolls game they will bang out a brand new game engine with a lot less bugs.

Other than that I love the game. I am probably sitting around 15+ hours played so far and still have a bunch of the wasteland to explore and quests to complete. Like its predecessor Fallout 3, New Vegas has be busy looting like crazy, just to makes some caps and craft some goodies.

Well I lost my companion, they were there one minute and gone the next, lol.

And I went searching and ended up getting raped by a bug and killed in 2 hits, there is something peculiar with this games difficulty, it feels like they spruced up the hit points and defense of everything just because they can, the bits where I have died I was on Very Easy because I nearly got killed just before by some other seemingly easy beastie.

I told my dog to wait for me at Goodsprings. I then started exploring caves and buildings and so forth, I was sneaky-killing some zombies when my dog just strolls around the corner, walks up to me and starts barking. Stupid dog.

I finished the main story last night. Quality ending,

I was surprised at how many of the seemingly random quests it references at the end. Unlike Fallout 3, where there were like four things. It's a pity you can't continue after killing the Legion dude, because he has not only an awesome sword but an amazing helmet.

I think now I might start a Legion character and rape and pillage me some NCR.

Ok, try this:

Add this to the end of [Display]:

fDefaultWorldFOV=90.0

Try another values and set the one that is better for you.

Still no change :/

Maybe the game locks it?

I started playing it on the weekend and love it so far. I am about to head off to Cottonwood Cove in search of a snipers nest that apparently has a good sniper rifle in a locked chest. Bring on the Legion, I am already hated by them ;)

Me too - if you have Boone you pretty much have to hate the Legion because regardless of your setting Passive/Aggressive he will kill them on sight :/

What file are you editing? You suppose to edit FalloutPrefs.ini

I got mine edited to "fDefaultFOV=85.0000", "fPipboy1stPersonFOV=58.0" and "fDefault1stPersonFOV=70.0000" and this is how it looks like:

edit: Never mind. Just noticed you aren't happy with the results, and not not seeing any.

I have heard that if he attacks them and you do not attack them back, they will not attack you (despite being hostile) and you will not lose faction with them, meaning you could drop him at a later time and go to their side. But, I haven't gotten that far so I cannot test it out.

As for the Deathclaws, I do not think they jumped, but they had some sort of dash attack where from medium range they could close the game and hit you very quickly. So maybe they replaced that with a leap attack?

I remember Deathclaws leaping at you, with their lunge attack.

They were never a problem for me in F3, I always ended up with the Gauss Rifle that did loads of damage (One shot kill everything but Overlords, Albino Radscorpions, etc.) with high enough stats + perks.

Well,

I started a new game, decided to explore a bit instead of just running from Quest Marker to Quest Marker. It was quite irritating at first, running into Super Mutants at Level 3 didn't really help me explore. *laughs*

It's definitely not as balanced as Fallout 3, and the exploration is limited too.. I've run into a few invisible walls which was annoying for me, but still.

I think it's a great game, it's not worth what I paid for it, but I won't moan about it. I'll probably never discover everything it has to offer, so I guess the quantity is there. :3 Just not sure about the quality yet.

Do like using companions this time around though - couldn't stand them in F3, always felt they were a bit useless. I'm packing Boone and Rex at the moment. D:

I really wish they would address teh save game issue in FO. I want to do that one quest, but cannot so I am doing other things. Annoying as hell that company produces a game with so many issues.

I heard something about a issue that corrupts your saves. Do you have any details on that?

I didn't had this issue. Didn't it fixed the problem for you?

That for the PC or XBOX? I have an XBOX

On the 360, if you complete the quest "Come Fly Away With Me" every saved game after becomes corrupted. You try to continue and the load freezes the XBOX. You try and LOAD, and you get an error about the DLC content being missing and you cannot load the game.

Oh, i tough you had on PC, you didn't mention your platform. :/

Now i get it, but on their blog it says they're working on the problem.

I completed the quest a few days ago and everything is fine with my saved games. Does this happen to select people or a game wide bug?

AHH this game sucks, constant freezing, glitching, quest glitches, Very very poor frame rate, you name it i have experienced it. Now this crazy chick at hoover dam wants me to kill everyone at the brotherhood after i have befriended them (which sucks) Caesars and his legion is dead as i took care of all them suckers early on, killed Mr. house and Big Sal cause of the conflicting (For The Republic, 2) quest glitch which wouldnt let me continue the game, so now i'm really upset.

Its happening to a lot of people. Do you have a XBOX 360? Did you download the DLC that comes with the game?

Yeah I'm running it on my xbox with the dlc I received from game stop. The only thing is that I didn't install the content till I got through a few missions. (Internet issues)

    • NVIDIA officially supports Ubuntu, as linked above with the GeForce NOW Hands on I did in collaboration with Paul Hill.
    • TO be clear I am not running linux today, however I keep thinking about it. And I want to make sure there are minimal obstacles if I decide to make that switch in the coming months.
    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
