Mac OS X Lion Discussion

They should kill Software Update and just deliver them all for free with no account needed through the Mac App Store while we'e at it...

They should definately merge Software Update with the AppStore. Having some kind of update mechanism that doesn't require an account for updates to the OS would be required like you said

Exactly. One universal way across the Mac to do the updates. :)

Does anyone know where to find Lion Server? I activated the server via Sharing, but have no idea where's all the configuration behind this thing. Seems to be hidden too well, or I'm blind as always. If it' the former, they will have to fix it in the final if they want people to actually see this feature...

I didn't install it but I would guess either in System Preferences or the Utilities folder in Applications

Well, Samba is definitely faster. But I'm seeing a LOT of Graphics Corruption on both my MacBook Pro (Nvidia) and MacBook (Intel). System's both also running a lot hotter too. Have installed on my iMac via LogMeIn so will see how thats running when I get home

The only issue I ran in was in LaunchPad. It decided to put Firefox in the second page so i moved it to the first and put it where it should be (alphabetical order). For some reason when I went back to it, it was on top of the first icon  After moving it a few more times I stuck properly

It's running hot likely because Spotlight is still indexing. My system isn't running any hotter with Lion than it did with Snow Leopard.

Nope, Running SSDs in both, Indexing only took about 15 minutes, no services gobbling up CPU usage. It's Graphics Related. It won't run off the Intel Graphics on the MacBook Pro. I'll only use the Nvidia Graphics.

You should probably file a bug report

That's funny because the battery icon is from iOS. ;)

Anyway, Mac OS X Lion leaked onto the internet. That didn't take too long.

And, Whomever Leaked It Is Going 2 Find That They Are Without An Apple Developer Account, As The Download Is Digitally Signed With Your Apple Developer ID!

I just hope the leaker create a throw away account and didn't use an account that was making money on the AppStore lol

If they hacked the DRM out of it, then they can hack the Developer ID out of it.

Also, please stop using Caps on every word in every post, it makes it surprisingly hard to read.

Well it seams to like eating Video Memory, the system runs really well until this is full, then it starts lagging.

I use iStat Pro and it doesn't show me which GPU is active or how much memory it is currently using... What tool are you using? Is that iStat Menus?

EDIT: I just found this: http://news.softpedia.com/news/iStat-Menus-3-16-Adds-Extra-Dropdowns-for-GPU-CPU-Processes-184806.shtml I guess that answers my question then... I just wonder why they split the development for iStat Menus and Pro... It's the same parent company. Sounds sketchy to me.

That's really crap that Apple won't support Trim on other branded SSDs. Mine is showing up as no TRIM support.

I wonder why they've taken this move? Apples SSDs are way slower than the competition.

Woop! Screenshot tool doesn't cut off bits of windows anymore! WOO!

Just because Lion doesn't support TRIM on third party SSDs yet doesn't mean it won't.

I'm guessing support for 3rd party SSDs is going to be included in the final version

I freaking hope so, I mean I appreciate it's not a major feature, I couldn't give a **** about Write speed as long as the Read Speed is fast but I'll take every advantage I can get, and SSD Basic Garbage Collection is one of those things.

I don't know about other users here but I personally use a program called gfxCardStatus on OS X to be able to switch between my MacBook Pros 9400m and 9600GT without needing to log out. This process has always been kinda flakey on Snow Leopard with mixed results and sometimes momentary freezing during the switching process. In Lion it is really smooth and a lot faster switching between cards, almost instant without any visible glitching.

Just thought I'd mention it!

1. It never did?!

2. They need to get rid of this System Report and include it all in the new & sexy system profiler.

Ugh, I'd like to try the bug where I zoom on the screen and I can drag windows below the top bar, but the System Preferences cannot start anymore, it's crashing all the time.

Edit : it is still possible. I warned them like 5 times already, what's their problem?

So yeah, for an alpha or beta version of the OS, it's very good and very stable, but as expected, certainly not for a main OS because there are strange bugs that can pop up everywhere.

OMG! The Speech tools now support French !!! And the accent looks like it' from Quebec (where I live) that's incredible, it means it actually detected my physical location and/or system language!

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.

    • Alien Isolation 2 will bring a new protagonist and setting, watch the reveal trailer here by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Only a few weeks ago, Sega and Creative Assembly dropped a teaser for a new Alien Isolation. Today at Summer Game Fest, Alien: Isolation 2 was officially announced with a new trailer while also confirming a whole lot of information about the setting of this survival horror project. Check out the reveal trailer above. Leaving behind the Sevastopol space station, the sequel will take players to a remote colony world. With a Xenomorph (or more) on the loose, players will be navigating both the surface of the weather-ravaged planet as well as "the claustrophobic confines of the Weyland-Yutani outpost of Kurosaki Station." Interestingly, Creative Assembly is leaving behind Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien's Ellen Ripley, as the protagonist too. While it hasn't confirmed a name yet, players will be taking the role of a new character for this new adventure. The setting is also being described as a new hunting ground for the Alien. This will have players improvising and developing new tools to aid in their survival and escape, all to avoid "cinema’s deadliest killer." "It has been over a decade since we created the original Alien: Isolation and I am so excited to show everyone the first glimpse of the sequel," says Al Hope, Creative Director at Creative Assembly. "Our dedicated Survival team at Creative Assembly has been working hard to create a new, evolved Isolation experience continuing the legacy of the Alien franchise, making the eponymous killer smarter, the environment harsher and the chance of survival slimmer." Promising the same deadly tension from the original from over a decade ago, Alien: Isolation 2 is in development for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced yet.
    • With how far Tim Apple's head has been up Trump's ass, there's no way this was done reluctantly.
    • Like the article stated, it's written completely from scratch, unlike the umpteen Chromium clones. It got its start as the browser built-in to the also written-from-scratch SerenityOS.
