There's information saturation in those login screens. You dont need a font that big, since it's a login screen I wonder if the "select an account" text it's really neccesary (The same with the hour, however it's a nice idea to vahe the hour in case this is used with a locked screen, however why not include it in that taskbar thing?)

If you are planning to put this distro on a torrent, I'm willing to seed it (max of 8 hours a day probably) @ 500 kbps

Not much but this can certainly help :)

That would be great, could yopu PM me your email address and I will get you the torrent file early! :)

Monday now :D What time will we expect a release in GMT? Also will it be Wubi or will I need to use it in VM?

Fusion OS Beta 2 will be released at 6:00PM EST today! Lets start the countdown! 6 hours!

Sweet, too bad it's 11PM GMT :( But will it include Wubi or Live CD? Or do I need to install VirtualBox?

Could possibly be earlier, the time is not set in stone but it WILL be available by that time. Beta 2 does not include Wubi but it does have a Live CD.

Sweet, will there be a Wubi by the final 1.0 release? That would guarantee me using it! I'm not too sure who it would work but I'm sure you could just replace the Ubuntu files with Fusion OS files. But keep up the great work and I can't wait for it. Though if it's only Torrent at first it'll suck due to slow speeds. I'd be better to either A: Get a Seedbox or B: Get a computer and run a public FTP. If not a online hosting site will have to do I guess.

Looks VERY good, but I have some suggestions:

Login screen

As mentionned earlier, I would do something about the huge font. My opinion is to completely remove the "Select a user to login" text. It's not needed. You're at a login screen. You know what to do.

The clock is a nice touch, but I would either make it transparent, borderless and blend with the background, or simply put it on the bar at the top, on the rightmost part of it.

UI

Looks real nice, it's very Windows 7-esque, but I have no problems with that. I would although do something with the buttons as mentionned earlier, they just don't blend right, maybe do something that blends with the transparency of the bar as a whole...?

The title bar text is readable, but it might be better in most situations if you give some kind of light-colored (Yellow, white) Outer shadow to it. By the way I LOVE the font you use :)

Why not just get a cheap seedbox account (I once had one with feral hosting, their service is good and their servers are fast). Seed the ISO on the seedbox for a couple of days, then stop seeding it when there are enough alternative seeds.

True, but it might be cheap, but still: it's a cost.

If everyone who downloads it seeds at least 1:1, there will be decent speeds :)

I will seed this week every day 24 hours, at 500kbps. It's not huge, but at least this will boost the overall speed of this torrent. I've an unlimited internet plan ;)

After this week, it will be probably 5-8 hours a day :)

I'm pretty sure you are aware that the login screen for every GNOME distro is GDM. Ubuntu is actually going to be ditching both GDM and KDM (KDE's login screen) in favour of LightDM in the next release, apparently because the code base is much smaller and simpler, is quicker, and is much simpler to work with as it can even be themed with HTML. I don't know anything about the differences between the various login screen managers besides what I've read from the announcements about the next Ubuntu release, but it may be worth looking into for your Distro. Maybe it'll make some of the features you want to implement possible? Maybe it'll make themeing easier? Just thought I'd mention it.

That login mockup is absolutely stunning by the way. I'm really liking it at first glance.

I appreciate that but surely they could ask for some donations.

It's 10:09PM here, so I'm guessing another hour till release of Beta 2? And as I said, will Wubi be in the final release? I really hope it is.

We are looking into Wubi it would be nice to have in fOS, so not a yes at this point but we are working on it. Also to everyone I am packaging this as fast as I can but I ran into a problem with the window theme, and had to remake the graphics I am estimating about 30-45 more minutes, and I will post when it is up and ready! Thanks for understandng!

Right, if you do have it ready for the release of Version 1 I would be greatful, It would make me install it pronto! It would increase your userbase, good luck with it :).

But okay, I can wait :) Will it be direct download or torrent only at first?

I am going to try to do a few direct downloads first to get it out to people, but I cant do many. The rest will have to be torrents.

OK, i've been reading this thread for a while now, and at the minute I use Mint 11, and am a real noob when it comes to linux. So, here are a few questions:

Will Fusion include a software manager like Mint's?

Play On Linux?/Wine?

Easy updating of Additional drivers like in Mint(with regard to Nvidia anyway - not sure about others)

What's this Fusion OS?

I found that because I was googling, didn't see the download torrent link as the Direct Download zip file wasn't available yet.

This is not the same project. We discussed this a few pages back. Also if you look at it, the last time it was modified was in October 2004? The Direct download, and torrent will be available very shortly. Getting ready to verify the ISO. But I would like as many people as possible to try and use the torrent and please seed.

Yes Fusion will include a software manager / app center, and we have been in discussion about integrated Wine deeply into the OS. We can do this but there did not seem to be much interest in it, before we go through that we want to know if people would even want it first. And with drivers I'm not farmiliar with the way Mint does this.

    • Wow, lol.. afaik the feed burner one hasn't been supported for some time, so I am surprised it still works!
    • I usually future-proof the parts that are expensive to replace later. If I'm running new cables, I always choose Cat6 or Cat6a instead of the cheapest option. For switches, I buy one with a few extra ports so I have room to expand. I don't always chase the latest networking standard unless I actually need it. I've found that a reliable router and good Wi-Fi coverage make a bigger difference than raw speed for most home networks. Planning ahead has saved me from doing a complete network rebuild later.
    • Back when I used to watch cable television, I used the mute button continuously... I picked up the habit from my father who was doing that with his decent Zenith TVs back when they made decent products, say 60+ years ago. When cable debuted as "pay television" the scuttlebutt was that television was going ad-free. Hardy-har-har... We dropped Netflix years ago as the services and programming deteriorated. Services that force-feed me ads I don't care to see I tend to shun, but with computers and programmable Internet television at least the ads can either be blocked or else rejected 90% of the time. But some of the ads Google runs are either so bad or so fraudulent that it's hard to believe they are running.
    • That name is kind of disingenuous, they should have called it RTX 5085 or 5090 Lite.
