yeah, i hate it when that happens. Thank god google solved the problem for uS! :D

Man, Google sure does like destroying Cr-48s. Pratically every video I've seen from them about has at least one getting destroyed.

Actually, I remember trying to get online when somebody was on the phone. It's quite interesting to hear a conversation coming from your modem!

Yeah, once that mute option came to NetZero (wow, never thought I'd talk about this again) I was all over it. If I remember right, it was slightly concerning when we didn't hear the tone because we didn't know where in the process it was (other than the messages we got).

Hey, if you were good, you could easily tell what speed you were connecting at just from the sounds.

At that time I was scared of the Advanced install options (something I always choose now to avoid desktop clutter. I hate installers that make icons without asking) so I was definitely not aware of connection speeds. I don't think I have my modem card anymore. I kept it for a little while but I got rid of it recently. Even if I had it, I have U-verse now so it probably wouldn't work/would cause something catastrophic to happen.

And for those who are critical: Yes, this is totally relevant to the conversation. You probably just missed the link in my post up there which talked about the origin of the internet.

EDIT: Took a look back on that Google thread that was linked too and saw the following:

So another day goes by with no shipments?

I'm thinking that the tracking site simply isn't working because Google changed something in their shipping method (reference numbers or shippers).

How were the tracking numbers found for the first few batches, before the tracker site was found? Maybe that method could be used?

The reference numbers (not tracking numbers, which are different) were on the packages, and they were sequential, so people were ASSUMING that they would continue to follow the same pattern. The tracker site was, AFAIK, working off of that assumption, which now appears to have been wrong.

As a side note, did anybody watch the Sync video? I must say, if my notebook dropped from a building and was run over by a bike and (ice cream) truck, I'd be pretty sad.

I don't understand why the shipping was such a big secret anyway. Google's Pilot Program page even says that they will contact those who are selected to get them, something that they clearly haven't been doing.

Definitely try and apply though that because it seems like people are most successful that way.

I already applied once. I don't know if I should do it again through the canary and mess up my chances of getting one...

I wonder if they are selecting people that use google products the most?

such as: Chrome Browser, Gmail, Google Apps, etc

i pretty much just use Gmail on my Android phone (which i hate). i'm pretty sure google keeps stats on what their users do and how they use the services.

it only makes sense to me to give them to people who are actually going to use them.

Yes and no. Google knows that people who use those products are going to keep using them for whatever reason they currently have.

However, a person that regularly uses the MS products instead (Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, IE, etc.) or even other alternatives other than MS would also be of interest to them if they want to really compete. I think it would be wiser to give a notebook out to one of those individuals to get criticism and feedback on what they could do better. Just my two cents.

Results are sorted by seeders (healthiest first), and each search now times out after 15 s so one dead provider can't hang the UI. Files & trackers Per-file priority is back: right-click a file in the detail panel to set Skip / Low / Normal / High. Rename an individual file inside a torrent (double-click or the file menu), separate from renaming the torrent. Remove a tracker from a torrent (the ✕ on a tracker row); adding was already there. Smart Paste on Ctrl+V — paste a magnet, a 40-char info-hash, or a .torrent URL straight from the clipboard and it's added immediately (text fields still paste text normally). Covers & titles Anime fansub naming ([Group] Title - NN) now resolves to the right show. Audio channel layouts in titles (DDP5.1, 7.1, …) are stripped so they don't pollute cover matching. Under the hood The legacy QWidget interface is gone. QML had been the only UI since 3.0.0 (reachable old code lived behind a hidden --legacy flag); with parity confirmed, the entire QWidget layer — main window, every dialog, the theme manager — was removed (~13,400 lines). The four restored actions above were features that backend already supported but the QML port had never wired. macOS: the WebUI password hash moved out of the keychain into app settings, so launching the app no longer pops a login-keychain password prompt on unsigned builds. The actual password still lives in the keychain. Cleanup: ~400 orphaned translation strings and a batch of dead code removed; internal duplication collapsed; an ARCHITECTURE.md added for contributors. Unit / security / memory tests and the ASan/UBSan/TSan sanitizers stay green.
