[Official] CR-48 ChromeOS Laptop Shipment-Tracking

Recommended Posts

What gives you that idea? They started shipments immediately after they started accepting applications, and they are taking applications until the 21st. What possible reason would they have for holding off the remaining shipments? All that would do is create a nightmare for their shipping department.

well since they are being shipped from louisville, ky the weather will be playing a role. since its been snowing everyday

Doubtful, they haven't been delayed in the tracking and there are no weather delays posted on UPS.COM, which they almost always post when there is a delay of any kind. To cover their own butts from refunds.

What the hell was THAT all about???? Did Google suddenly realize they had sent one to someone on their naughty list? Or someone in prison??

As for the other one, it is simply showing that it is rescheduled for delivery thursday. And it is going to New York, so if it is a weather delay, it is probably at the recieving end, not in KY.

My guess one of the people trying to sell it.

That would make sense. Especially if the seller was using their Gmail address for eBay transactions, it would be easy for Google to find them.

hmm wounder how often google will push updates ? honestly other than easy internet not sure what more i can do with it :/

any ideas ? ( other than shipping it to someone else lol )

How responsive is Google docs? Would you consider using it to write a rough draft for a uni paper?

I have played with Google Docs some. It seems like it should be a nice cheap alternative to office for mobile use. Also I have started looking at other tools within the new apps. Thinking the new VNC app will come in handy.

There are two in my zip. One was delivered on the 12/10/2010. I ordered mine on 12/10/2010, and it shows one out for delivery for today...mmmm

I'm gonna drive past your house right now and see if it's there... haha

Google is doing a WONDERFUL job with making us go crazy over these laptops...

I think neowin will lose sleep over these stupid things.

Now...WHERE is **** is mine?! I can't go another day without sleep!!!

or figure out a way to get windows on that bad boy

Really shouldn't be that hard, especially if you have another computer with SATA handy. I'm thinking it would be something like this:

1. take out the battery and flip the developer switch

2. take the SSD out and connect it to a machine that has a DVD drive in it

3. use that machine to install Windows 7 on the SSD

4. before the first boot into Windows, take the SSD out of the install machine and put it back into the CR-48

5. boot into Windows 7 and set up any hardware that needs drivers not included with Windows (most of the hardware is similar to what is in the current model of Dell mini 10, the 1012).

Bleh, I give up on waiting. I've been watching the tracking for the only package coming to my zip all day, but it's STILL out for delivery, almost 12 hours after it originally left UPS this morning.

yeah, but would it even run it decently? Might not even be worth it.

As I just said, much of the hardware is virtually identical to the Dell mini 10 1012 model. I has almost the same processor (Atom N455 vs. N450) and the same video card, but with the advantage of an SSD instead of a hard drive, so it should run very well with Windows 7.

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
