[Official] CR-48 ChromeOS Laptop Shipment-Tracking

Recommended Posts

I applied on the 17Th a little late but I just came across the pilot program by accident.

I am not a developer but I work for a company who pays me to evaluate and test out google products from the eyes of the average consumer and user.

I mentioned this on my application and i hope that helps me, only issue is they require me to use Firefox so I wont be able to do my job on the cr-48 but I can still use it as a recreational computer.

The tracking site isn't showing any new shipments since the 16th so either nothing new has shipped or they are not able to figure out or get any new reference numbers.

I am hoping one is on it's way to me.

It seems like they gave Developers the first shot, but it makes sense that they would want feedback from the average user since it seems that is who will be mostly using this OS because it doesn't do much.

UPS stopped in front of my duplex and i went out and nothing was not for me they was looking for nothing address right close to mine a few ft or more. i just wish that tracker was more accurate cause siad 1 being shipped to my address today but no well this stinks cause it been perfect to teach my father how to use the Web finally. tho i am hopeful maby more will come

i don't understand why a company like Google wouldn't be able to ship across the world, being one of the most known world wide companies.

OK, since it seems that no one bothers to use any common sense (or even read what I have wrote in this thread at least two other times): Google partnered with Verizon for the 3G wireless service in these netbooks, which wouldn't work anywhere other than the US. Why would they bother shipping them somewhere that the user wouldn't be able to test one of the main features?

They also might be limiting their shipments to people who have good Verizon signal, since 3g will be a part of the test i bet. So they might check the verizon signal coverage on the addy you entertained before they take your application into consideration?

Which i kinda hope not, because our home/shipping address isnt necessarily be where we will be using the netbook.

I get ****ty signal out where i live, ha, always dropping calls on my droid.

Doubtful, one of the reasons being because more than 10 shipments have already been returned and/or are in the process of being returned to the sender due to fake addresses/non existent/etc. So Google didn't even check any addresses before even shipping them.

Weird. There's one going to my zip that's been delayed 2 days now (original ETA was 12/20 and it's been pushed back each day), but it doesn't show any sort of error like that one.

Here is some info directly from Google on the requirements for "organizations" which I am assuming includes, Businesses, Education, Non-profit.

"At this time, we are requiring that all pilot organizations have at least 100 users that live entirely on the web and could move to the Chrome notebooks."

"We require that the users log in with their Google Apps credentials."

"At present, the devices don't have any VPN capability. "

"Organizations need to be piloting Google Apps or they need to be a Google Apps customer in order for the notebooks to work in their organization (user must log in using a Google Apps account)."

Just some notes we got out of them from a source who was dealing directly with the Enterprise Project Manager, Cyrus Mistry

One is actually coming to my town (right zip and everything) and is going to arrive today. I don't want to get my hopes up but thats kinda hard......with my luck I have no doubt there will be no box on my door when I get home....

I too live in Molalla and applied, do you know for certain this is for your address? did you see the address when you could still track? It would be nice to know so I can stop obsessing!

thanks

    • I can name 10x that on why not to switch.... It's funny outlook/office are going towards web app wrappers, and then MS is now preaching native apps again.... ugh can we just pick a lane and stay in it
    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
