Xbox 360 System Update Preview

Recommended Posts

So it sounds like they'll be pushing security updates as part of the games themselfs if that info is how I think. I always wondered why, at least 1st party games, didn't ship with the ability to check what fw you're running and then autoupdate it to the newest one before the game would play.

why do people keep confusing streaming services with IPTV.... IPTV is a transit method for standard cable channels... not oh I want to watch this show now, play it now streaming...... IPTV is say oh I want to watch channel 10 now, tune to it and there you go, just like on RF cable, but via IP...... AT&T uses this for U-Verse in the USA, XBOX is a IPTV client, and some cable systems let you use it, heck what was it Cox? i cant remember you could use an XBOX 360 in place of your cable box because it used IPTV

Moot point to make.. The point is MS is testing a new "iptv" service apparently designed more around their mediaroom stuff. who knows what it will be and when it will be :) may be xbox 720

So, I'm in correct?

I'm guessing so, I'm in the LIVE group I believe. Hoping to confirm that this isn't still pending and I've actually been accepted.

Curious if anyone has gotten their discs yet as I am out of town (skiing) until tomorrow morning.

Cool! Just read some of your comments/re-checked the site, excited to eventually get my free copy of Halo! Had only previously rented it for the campaign.

What the hell? It doesn't say that for me. It says I'm going to get my Dashboard Update with my Halo Reach copy??

Preview DISC Update Audience: As a member of this audience, should ONLY have access to the Xbox Beta Channel at this time, your dashboard update will be delivered via the Halo Reach disc in the coming weeks.

EDIT: Just realized this part here:

Due to the nature of this update we will be splitting the Xbox LIVE Update Preview audience into two separate segments. This means we will have some unique scenarios associated to each group so that we can get the test coverage we are seeking for this update. On your console, once it is properly registered into the program you will be able to see the ?Xbox Beta Channel? and the first slot will also identify the AUDIENCE you are registered into.

So I'm still getting the update, it's just happening through the Reach Disc. Ok, kind of odd, but its kind of nice to know that they're putting firmware updates on a disc :)

Another tab on the connect site outlines there are 2 groups:

1) Update via Xbox Live and the disc is mailed separately (that's my group)

2) You get mailed a disc that has Halo:Reach + Update on the disc

My edit to your edit: ;) yupp there ya go.

Yup, just switched on my 360 and sure enough, I know have an "Xbox Beta" channel. it doesn't do much, but describes the update process.

Now begins the waiting!

Wait, so it's the actual update already, or just an update to prepare for the update? Better go boot up my 360...

No, you're put into two update groups;

One group gets the update through Live and the Game Disc later

The other group gets the update through the disc (to test the shipping of firmware updates on game discs, similar to PSPs (and maybe PS3s, I don't know))

Either way, we'll all get the game disc around the same time, that's what really matters.

Yes, I know, but someone said the update came out. Was that just the beta channel? What are people downloading?

Right, the people in the Live channel group are already getting the update, people in the Disc channel update have a Beta channel slot on their dashboard, but won't get the update till the disc arrives.

Either way, the update will do nothing without the disc, so ultimately everyone will get in at the same time.

Yes, as LiquidSolstice said, only people in the Preview Program and in the LIVE update are receiving the update. If you're not in the program at all, you will see nothing and go about your daily routine on the Xbox.

Ah, got it, thanks.

Yes, I know, I'm in the Preview Program.

I know it is highly unlikely but does anyone think maybe the discs will arrive for the "Community Playdate 'Halo:reach'" for April 8th 8pm to 11pm EST?

depends if the government shutsdown because if it does on friday the USPS will not be sending mail to anyone.

I REALLY don't see how they will be getting the disks to us today/tomorrow. Unless they overnight everyone of them.

They already agreed USPS will continue operating under any shutdown.

Plus, MS is notorious for using UPS for everything.

Anyone know when Hulu+ will be tested? was hoping to see that in this dashboard update. It is officially spring 2011 :)

    • This makes me think of Dune for some reason.
    • I'm too old to return to the "good old days" when I was installing custom ROMs and tinkering with my devices - now I just want to turn it on and use it. I've read that banking and payment apps work on Murena /e/OS (I'll have to check the ones I use) and I also really want to support Fairphone 😉

    • NVIDIA announces 35 new AI HPC supercomputers across Europe by Fiza Ali NVIDIA has announced that 35 AI high-performance computing (HPC) supercomputers are planned to open throughout Europe this year. This marks what the company describes as the largest single-year expansion of AI infrastructure in the history of the continent. These new systems, unveiled at ISC High Performance 2026, will be placed at a number of national supercomputing centres, AI factories, and research institutes to provide advanced computing resources to more than three million researchers. Describing AI, NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated, "AI is the new instrument of science, and Europe is building the infrastructure to put it in the hands of millions of researchers." Built on NVIDIA's Blackwell and Hopper architectures, the new systems will support research in climate science, healthcare, clean energy, quantum computing, and other scientific fields. Among the major projects are the Barcelona Supercomputing Center's MareNostrum 5 AI upgrade, BavariaAI's Blue Swan platform in Germany, Italy's IT4LIA AI factory, Germany's HammerHAI project, and Sweden's Mimer AI Factory. The Barcelona Supercomputing Center plans to expand MareNostrum 5 with NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 and GB200 NVL4 systems. In total, the BSC expects to deliver up to 20 exaflops of AI training performance and 33 exaflops of AI inference performance. This increased computational capability will support research efforts related to climate modelling, biotechnology, energy systems, etc. Furthermore, as part of the IT4LIA project, more than 8,000 GPUs, each based on NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL4 architecture, will be used in Italy. This represents one of the largest AI factory initiatives announced to date. Additionally, the Blue Swan platform from BavariaAI will include about 1,000 GPUs to help develop multimodal AI models for use in the medical field, robotics, and various areas of scientific research. NVIDIA also emphasized in the announcement how rapidly growth of accelerated computing usage is taking place within both energy and climate-related research. The company said Siemens Energy uses NVIDIA-powered technologies to significantly accelerate the process of designing and simulating hydrogen-capable gas turbines. Using those same acceleration technologies, Siemens was able to reduce simulation time by up to 77 percent. The company also highlighted several quantum computing initiatives across Europe. CINECA, EuroHPC, and Pasqal are integrating a quantum processing unit into Italy's CINECA supercomputing centre using NVIDIA's CUDA-Q platform. Meanwhile, researchers at Germany's Julich Supercomputing Centre recently simulated a universal 50-qubit quantum computer on the JUPITER supercomputer. The announcement demonstrates Europe's continued commitment to building out its infrastructure supporting AI and supercomputing as governments, research organizations, and technology companies compete to build out their respective computing capacities and secure their positions in advanced scientific research.
