Xbox 360 System Update Preview

Recommended Posts

Is it a Halo: Reach case that the disc comes in? I plan on trading in my current copy of Reach when the new one comes, but I'm hoping it has a case (for game management purposes). (Basically, what I'm asking is -- is the case shown above one for Reach?)

came as shown, still wrapped in plastic when i took pic

It looks like Microsoft is testing the possibility of updating the system via games as well as the internet

Pretty sure it's always been a requirement for game discs to come with the latest version of the dashboard? Before I was on Live I got updates through the discs (in 2006).

They need to test this one because they need to see if consoles without the firmware update can use the new disc format without going crazy and saying it's an unidentified format... that's the way I see it anyway...

So I got accepted into the DISC version of the program, but unfortunately the Xbox console I registered into the program is having problems and so I had to get myself a new one. Does anyone know if there's a way to change my beta access so it's tied to the new console instead of the old one, or am I SOL until the program ends and the update becomes publicly available? I had sorta hoped that since I was getting my update off the disc that it would work on my new console but that warning that comes with the disc says otherwise.

letter says its full copy, not sure what you mean by official

I guess "official" isn't a great word to use...I meant an actual copy that would normally get released to the public....artwork and all....

doubtfull since this is same version of game, just on the new layout disk

and you could always google the artwork and print your own

No, there's no reason for them to do that. People could just trade them in, and why give another copy when you're already giving the full copy?

Same here, though honestly I'm not particularly excited about this test as it means not much to me, and I already have Halo Reach.

Same. I'm just hoping some more interesting stuff comes out for it, like the rumored Netflix update. It'd be nice to get a Facebook update, too.

I am curious what exactly the difference between the preview disc and the regular Reach. What did they put in that extra gig?

Well the update for one would be in that space. They don't need to artifically increase Reach's filesize to test if the new disc format works properly.

I am extremely confused.

I got an email saying I didn't get in a few days ago.

I don't see that group available in my connect dashboard.

Now today I just got an overnight Fedex envelope with the disc.

:pinch:

I want to try it but I might be locked out of xbox live which would suck.

    • If you don't care to read what I said, then you prove my point. Maybe written media is beyond your attention span. Titles are not summaries my friend.
    • Nobody asked... in fact, I said "I don't care about political leanings"
    • TLDR. Here is a far better title (just a basic example): Windows 11 26H2 to allow disabling Web search results
    • Restore will get my vote, only if to see if things are any different, doubt it though but Labour and Conservatives too out of touch and same thing over and over and over…, Lib Dem who?
    • There is nothing wrong with this title. You have completely missed the plot when it comes to "clickbait." The issue was never that a title tries to entice you to click, that is how titles have worked for over 100 years. The issue is when the title subverts expectations, getting you to click expecting something that isn't there. The classic clickbait example is "Boyfriend caught cheating, what happens next will shock you," then what happened next is the girlfriend was upset...which is probably the least shocking outcome imaginable. If sounds like what you want is for the titles to be a collection of 10-word summaries that you can skim, get the just of the story, and only click if you want more details. That is not, never has been, and never will be what titles are. You can go all the way back to print newspapers during the great depression and see the same thing. The newspaper was locked in a vending machine, all you can see is the headline, you choose to put in 5¢ to buy the paper and read the rest if you want. Those headlines were written in a way to sell the paper, not just to provide a summery. Here are two actual headlines from that time, "Wall Street Lays an Egg," or "Stocks Hit Bottom?" Maybe you'd say something like "it was wrong then and it's still wrong now." Okay, fine opinion to have, but it isn't like Neowin is doing something unjurnalistic, they are just following the age-old standards for written media.
