Amazon refreshes the Echo Buds with a more compact design for $119.99

Amazon made inroads into the true wireless earbuds space in 2019 with the debut of its first Echo Buds. The pair featured Alexa integration, active noise cancellation, and a five-hour battery life on a single charge, among others.

Today, Amazon announced the all-new Echo Buds. The refreshed buds bring a bunch of improvements from their predecessor such as a more compact design, enhanced ANC, and improved ergonomics. Amazon has now reduced the earbuds' size by 20%, introduced a vented design for minimal ear pressure, and shortened their nozzle so they don't reach the deeper portion of your ear canal. The Echo Buds are IPX4-rated to resist splash, sweat, and light rain. There are now four sizes for the ear tips with an oval shape and two sizes for the wing tips.

Amazon also said the buds' noise-reduction system has gained improvements. They can now “cancel twice as much noise” as their predecessors. You can also adjust how much ambient noise you want to let in with the passthrough mode.

Other improvements also extend to the buds' mic (with three on each side) and audio quality. Amazon says the buds offer "crisp, balanced sound with extended dynamic range" while the "speakers are optimized for increased fidelity in bass and treble, which reduces distortion during media playback".

There's still Alexa integration, of course, which you can use to find and play your favorite songs on Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Spotify. The Echo Buds can last up to five hours on a single charge with the ANC and Alexa features turned on. Furthermore, the charging case provides two additional charges. Later this year, Amazon will introduce the VIP Filter to the buds in order to let you choose what phone notifications you want to hear and mute the rest.

You can pre-order the new Echo Buds starting today. They're priced at $119.99 for the USB-C wired charging variant and $139.99 for the wireless charging option. Amazon is also running a limited-offer in which you can grab the USB-C wired charging option for only $99.99 and the wireless charging option for $119.99. This offer comes with an optional free six months of Amazon Music Unlimited and Audible Plus for eligible customers. Coming in Black and Glacier White, the buds are set to ship in the U.S. next month.
