Apple pushes new Logic Pro features and sound packs to Mac and iPad

Apple Logic Pro Flashback Capture

Apple has updated its professional music production app, Logic Pro, on Mac and iPad. For starters, Flashback Capture is a newly built feature for Logic Pro that helps users recover performances even if they forgot to press the record button.

It allows users to restore MIDI and audio performances using a key command or a custom control bar button, Apple explained in a press release. However, it notes that audio support for Flashback Capture works when Logic Pro is in active play mode.

Next, Apple has updated the Stem Splitter in Logic Pro with enhanced audio fidelity and new stems. Stem Splitter is designed to isolate and extract individual stems, such as vocals, drums, bass, guitar, and other instrumental parts of an audio track, allowing for separate editing and processing. It requires an iPad or Mac with an M1 chip or later.

With its new update, the tool can extract more details from old recordings and demos, and support guitar and piano stems. It also has a new submix feature that makes it easier to export specific parts of an audio track. For instance, users can remove just the vocals to create an instrumental track or remove the drums and bass to get a custom sound.

Apple has added new sound packs to Logic Pro. Dancefloor Rush is available on both Mac and iPad, bringing drum and bass sounds with more than 400 dynamic loops, punchy drum kits, and a custom Live Loops grid. Meanwhile, Mac has two additional sound packs: Magnetic Imperfections and Tosin Abasi.

"Magnetic Imperfections brings an original texture that captures the raw, unpolished essence of analog tape, while the Tosin Abasi sound pack showcases progressive metal guitar with boutique amps, unique effects, distinctive picking techniques, and the artist’s signature riffs," Apple explained.

Apart from that, the built-in Notepad in Logic Pro now supports Apple Intelligence Writing Tools. Users can navigate large projects easily by searching and selecting tracks by name or track number.

These new updates are part of Logic Pro for Mac 11.2 and Logic Pro for iPad 2.2, available for free to existing users. New users will have to pay $199 for the Mac version and $49 per year or $4.99 per month for the iPad version.
