Apple quietly removes the iPod shuffle and nano from its website

Today, Apple quietly removed the iPod shuffle and iPod nano from its website, which hints at the discontinuation of the two music players that haven't been refreshed in over two years.

It looks like it may be the end for Apple's iPod shuffle and iPod nano music players, as both devices have been removed from the company's website. If you go to the Music tab on the site, the touch is the only iPod that's still listed there.

The two devices have officially been discontinued, with Apple issuing the following statement to Business Insider:

"Today, we are simplifying our iPod lineup with two models of iPod touch now with double the capacity starting at just $199 and we are discontinuing the iPod shuffle and iPod nano"

The iPod shuffle and nano still show up if you search Apple.com; however, if you click the Buy link, it will take you to a site that says "Page Not Found". Also, if you attempt to access the product listings themselves, you'll be redirected to the Apple Music page.

The move isn't entirely surprising, as iPods haven't received a refresh in over two years, and even then, only the touch received new internals, while the shuffle and nano just got a few new colors.
