Apple Watch Series 3 seems to be picky when charging though Qi wireless

It was only last week that Apple revealed that its new iPhones, Watch Series 3, and AirPods with a wireless charging case. During its presentation, it announced that each of these items would be able to wirelessly charge and that the firm would be releasing its own wireless charging mat dubbed the AirPower. This charging pad would allow all three items to be charged at once.

Unfortunately, the charging pad won't be available until next year, but Apple did present some options that would be available from third-party manufacturers. Although the iPhones support the Qi charging standard, it was uncertain whether the AirPods and Apple Watch would.

While there doesn't seem to be a concrete answer yet, Mac Otakara has tested the Watch Series 3 on multiple Qi wireless chargers and has found that it is a bit hit-and-miss at the moment. It tested the Belkin model that Apple touted at the event and found that it was not able to charge the watch. But, using a lesser known brand, it was able to achieve successful charging. Although Apple does not currently have a comprehensive list of what does work, hopefully, this will arrive soon or there will be a community created list at some point.

The Apple Watch Series 3 is now available to purchase from various retail stores and also the Apple Store starting at $329.
