Federal Court Stops 'Legal' P2P Claim

A Los Angeles based website which claimed to offer legal trading of copyrighted material has been temporarily banned from making such claims by a federal court, the US government said yesterday. Cashier Myricks Jr., doing business as MP3downloadcity.com, claims that his $24.95 tutorial and referral service allows users to download copyrighted music and movies. These claims are false, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

While a temporary restraining order was issued on September 27th, the FTC is reportedly seeking a permanent ban. In addition, the FTC will seek refunds for customers who feel they were mislead by the site's statements and require that the site explain the legal consequences of sharing copyrighted material.
