It’s time for another giveaway at Neowin! Today, thanks to the guys at Auslogics, we can give away 10 copies of their Auslogics BoostSpeed 5 PRO software valued at US$50. Each license is good to use on up to three computers if you so desire.
BoostSpeed 5 is another one of these pieces of software that allows you to easily perform maintenance tasks on your PC, such as removing junk files, defragmenting disks, recovering files and generally speeding up your computer. Naturally you may be sceptical of whether or not this program will actually speed up your computer, so it’s best to try it out and see; if not you still may find some use out of the many features it comes with.
We used the software briefly just to check out how it works, and while here at Neowin we generally keep our computers up to shape, we can see how this would easily help novice and end-users keep their computers speedy. On one of our terribly outdated computers it advised us to update several drivers, disable autorun, disable some unimportant services such as the fax service and clean-up the drives; this was just in one section of the software as well.
The Resource Usage monitor is a more advanced version of Windows’ own Performance Manager with links to a very comprehensive Auslogics Task Manager, which we were pleasantly surprised about. The overall interface of the software is also very good, enabling users to see, through a scan, exactly what is the problem with their computer and easily fix it. A lot of the things it fixed were legitimate, such as removing all the junk in our system and defragmenting the drives; however we weren’t too sure the registry fixes were all that useful and they certainly contributed to the “2,401 problems are slowing down your computer” exaggeration.
Overall we would have to say to give this a try if you are not familiar with the intricate workings of your computer and operating system as we’re sure it will remove a lot of junk and unnecessary clutter slowing down your computer. On the other hand, if you’re an advanced user then perhaps this is not for you.
