Google quietly removes the "Free App of the Week" section from its Play Store

It was less than a month ago when Google quietly unveiled its "Free App of the Week" section on the Play Store. Now it appears that the firm has removed the section, as it no longer available.

There is that old saying "all good things must come to an end" and now it looks like Google has pulled the plug on one of its lesser known promotions. It was less than a month ago that the firm resurrected its "Free App of the Week" section on the Play Store. Now, when checking the Play Store, it appears that the free section is no longer in existence.

If you missed out on the promotion, Google was giving away one free app every week. When we last checked, Google was offering Card Wars - Adventure Time which is normally priced at $2.99. However, pulling the promotion doesn't come as a complete surprise, since we did speculate that it could be some kind of short-term test. The company had not officially unveiled details about the section.

If looking for something similar, you might want to take a look at Amazon, as the company has been giving away one free app each day through its own app store for quite some time.
