Huawei testing Android 8.0 Oreo on Mate 9, offers limited beta

Huawei has now opened up a limited beta to test out Android 8.0 Oreo for the Mate 9. The beta test will run until November and will hopefully go live to the public a short time after.

Although Android 8.0 Oreo made its debut in late August, many handsets have yet to receive the update. According to a report published by Google this month, Oreo is now only on 0.2% of devices. But that doesn't mean it isn't coming and that companies aren't testing it.

From the looks of it, Huawei is now working on an update to the latest version of Android with its Mate 9. The firm has launched an Android 8.0 Oreo beta program, giving those curious a chance to experience the update before it is released to the masses.

If you are interested in participating in the beta, you'll need to download the app. This is probably best done through your phone as it will give you have you download the app via an APK file.

Once logged into the app, you'll see a menu, similar to what's above. You'll want to be quick in joining the project as there are only 250 slots available for this beta.

Prior to joining, you'll want to back up your information and any important items. Since the software is in beta, there could be a chance of something going wrong and you don't want to have all your precious information get lost or deleted. There could also be chance encounters with things that are broken. Be sure to make the most of the experience by reporting the issue so that it can be fixed.

If the phone you are using to test is your main device, you might want to wait until the official version is released. Otherwise, the beta will run until November 3.
