Kingdom: New Lands is free to claim on the Epic Games Store for this week

Epic Games Store has put forth its fourth title during the Epic Mega Sale, offering Kingdom: New Lands for free, replacing City of Brass. This is the last week of the Epic Mega Sale, bringing the weekly giveaways to an end and going back to the fortnightly schedule.

A side-scrolling simulation title, it was developed by a two-person team of Thomas van den Berg and Marco Bancale. Kingdom originally released in 2015, with the New Lands expansion bringing new lands to explore in 2016.

Kingdom was received positively at launch by players and critics alike and received an ‘Honorable Mention’ at the Independent Games Festival for the ‘Excellence in Audio’ category. It was also praised for its pixel-art style and sold over 4 million copies by May of 2019. Here’s how the Epic Games Store describes the title:

Be brave, ruler, and fight to the bitter end,
lest these New Lands conquer you instead.

Kingdom is a minimalistic micro strategy game with modern retro aesthetics and an ambient soundtrack. Players take control of a monarch struggling to build their kingdom from nothing by exploring the world, recruit loyal subjects and defend from the nightly Greed attacks.

Epic Games Store is offering the title at no cost for players on Windows and macOS. It's worth noting, however, that the game is also available on Linux via Steam, where it is currently priced at $14.99. Also available on Steam is the free Skull Island DLC which brings a 6th island to the game. A 'Royal Edition' bundles the base game with its original soundtrack, as well. Here are the minimum requirements for the game:

Windows
  • OS: Windows XP
  • Processor: Dual Core
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM
  • DirectX: Version 9.0c
  • Storage: 1 GB available space
macOS
  • OS: macOS Snow Leopard (version 10.6)
  • Processor: Dual Core
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia 320m
  • Storage: 1 GB available space

If you wish to claim Kingdom: New Lands, here’s its store page. It will be free to claim until June 13, which is when Epic will put on offer Enter the Gungeon for its next giveaway.
