Mario is coming to the Nintendo Switch in new open-world game

Nintendo showcased its latest Switch hybrid console just a few hours ago, detailing pricing and availability information. Apart from revealing those details, it also announced that several new games would be making their way to the console, including Super Mario Odyssey.

Super Mario Odyssey appears to be an ambitious effort from Nintendo, bringing the beloved plumber to a seemingly open-world sandbox-styled game. The trailer shows Mario in many different locations including one inspired by New York, and a forest, among others. It also appears that Nintendo is transforming Mario's hat into a sentient being with eyes, who will have a role to play in the plumber's adventure. Many instances in the trailer show Mario using his hat for different purposes such as aiding him in climbing.

The trailer - which is almost three minutes in length - also shows off Mario navigating across various landscapes, avoiding enemies, and riding various vehicles and creatures. That said, the video doesn't give anything away in terms of story, but does show Mario trying to save Princess Peach from Bowser at a wedding. You can watch the full trailer below:

And while Nintendo hasn't announced pricing details as of yet, it has stated that Super Mario Odyssey will be coming to the Switch in 'holiday 2017'.
