Microsoft announces two free games every month with Xbox Live Gold

At its Xbox keynote at E3 2013, Microsoft announced an upcoming upgrade to its Xbox Live program. The company confirmed that existing Gold members will see their memberships extend to the new Xbox One console, but also announced a new initiative that will see it compete more effectively with Sony's PlayStation Plus.

From July 1, all new and existing Xbox Live Gold members will receive two free games every month. The company didn't specify whether users would be able to select from a range of titles, or if the same two games would be provided to all members on a monthly basis.

However, two of the titles that the company said would be available in the coming months are Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed II.
