Microsoft's cloud computing platform, Azure, has been hit by a massive blackout just ahead of the company's quarterly earnings report. The Remond giant has communicated about the outage on the Azure status page and its social media accounts.
According to the status page, the Azure outage started around 16:00 UTC (12:00 pm ET). It's affecting Microsoft services and Azure customers who Azure Front Door (AFD), and users may notice latencies, timeouts, and errors.
"We have confirmed that an inadvertent configuration change as the trigger event for this issue," Microsoft says on the Azure status page, which is being periodically updated for the latest updates.
Customers may have experienced problems accessing the Azure management portal. We have failed the portal away from AFD to mitigate the portal access issues. Customers should be able to access the Azure management portal directly, while all portal extensions are working correctly there may be a small number of endpoints that might have a problem loading (i.e. Marketplace).
Microsoft has not provided an estimated timeline for fully mitigating the issue. However, the company has started deploying its 'last known good' configuration, which would take about 30 minutes to show the signs of initial recovery.
Once this is completed, the next stage is to start to recover nodes while we route traffic through these healthy nodes. Customer configuration changes will remain blocked during this time as we work towards mitigation. We will communicate to customers when this block is reverted.
We’re investigating reports of issues accessing Microsoft 365 services and the Microsoft 365 admin center. More details can be found in the Service Health Dashboard under MO1181369.

The global Azure outage has affected various products that rely on Microsoft's cloud infrastructure. The list includes its own Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Minecraft. Meanwhile, Alaska Airlines also reported that it is currently experiencing a disruption to key systems, including its websites.
Update: At 00:05 UTC on October 30, 2025 (8:05 pm ET on October 29), Microsoft confirmed that the impact on Azure Front Door had been mitigated. The company will publish a final Post-Incident Review (PIR) following a 14-day internal retrospective.
