Microsoft dishes on new OCS 2007 release

A year ago this week, Bill Gates took the wraps off Microsoft's voice over IP strategy and predicted a steadily diminishing role for the PBX. Now Microsoft is offering details on the next version of Office Communications Server, the linchpin of its unified communications vision.

At the VoiceCon conference in Amsterdam, Microsoft announced that Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2 will boost support for mobile devices with single number reach; add SIP trunking; and incorporate new tools that developers can use to embed communication features into business applications.
