Microsoft launches Digital Gift Cards for Xbox and Windows Stores

Straight off the bat from the Black Friday weekend and with the Christmas holidays just around the corner, Microsoft has launched an app that allows people to buy digital gift cards through the Windows Phone Store.

Not to be confused with physical gift cards, the new digital cards, which can be personalized with a note, can be used on both Xbox and Windows stores for apps, games, music, movies, and TV shows. And for those with a busy schedule, can even plan the gift card to be sent at a specific time and date.

The app's full features are:

  • Select a gift by occasion and interests.
  • Include a personal note.
  • Easily select friends and family from your contact list.
  • Send your gift today or select a future delivery date – no shipping deadlines or last minute trips to the store.
  • The perfect “add-on” for family and friends receiving an Xbox or Windows device.
  • Track and manage your gifts using the History feature.
  • Recipients can choose great content from the Xbox and Windows stores to be enjoyed on their Windows 8 phone, PC, tablet, or Xbox.

The app can be downloaded here and also features management and history of purchased digital gift cards.
