Microsoft releases Windows Server vNext Insider Preview build 18985

It's that time again. It's been two weeks since the last Windows Server Insider Preview, so now it's time for another one. Microsoft released Windows Server vNext build 18985, aligning the build number with the current client build in the Fast ring. As usual, it's from the 20H1 development branch, meaning that it's a preview of the feature update that will arrive in the spring.

The blog post that Microsoft posted doesn't describe anything new in terms of features. There's still the one known issue that has been around for a while:

There is an issue where the App Compatibility FOD cannot be added to the OS .wim image offline using DISM /image method. After upgrade, it is necessary to reinstall the new FOD using DISM /online method.

One thing that we haven't heard about is Windows Server 19H2, which would be out soon if it does indeed exist. Microsoft is calling Windows Server 20H1 vNext, but at the same time, the firm is calling it semi-annual. Obviously, it can't be both of those things.

If you want to download Windows Server build 18985, you can get it here. There are also new builds of Server Core App Compatibility FoD Preview and Server Language Packs that you can grab.
