More Cube Cuts Create Climbing Cales, ahem, Sales

Jeez... is it only me that actually bought and actually like the 'cube???

Japanese game maker Nintendo on Thursday said sales of its GameCube video game console spiked after a price cut was announced. The company lowered the price of the console to $99 from $150 last week, in an effort to boost sales.

Since then, Nintendo said in a statement that sales of the console have "more than quadrupled." Nintendo has also received requests for additional shipments from retailers, the company said.

The news comes after the game maker, which is battling Microsoft's Xbox console for second place in the market, reported slower-than-expected sales earlier in the year. Nintendo is attempting to keep its momentum by mounting a $50 million ad campaign and introducing new game titles as it heads into the holiday season, the company said.
