Customers Reap Performance and Memory Benefits of New Windows Server 2003 Editions That Support 64-Bit Processors
Microsoft Corp. today announced the beta availability of Windows Server (TM) 2003 for 64-Bit Extended Systems supporting the AMD64 architecture. Support for 64-bit Extended Systems will be available in both Standard and Enterprise editions of Windows Server 2003. In addition, Microsoft will add a Standard Edition of Windows Server 2003 for 64-bit for Itanium-based systems, expanding its support for the Itanium processor family from the existing Enterprise and Datacenter editions. Beta software for the new 64-bit versions is available to MSDN® subscribers today and will soon be available to the general public.
Support for AMD64 technology affords customers value and flexibility by supporting a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit applications on the same machine, further delivering great price/performance.
Microsoft's addition of a 64-bit Standard Edition for Windows Server 2003 makes 64-bit computing more accessible and affordable to mainstream customers deploying systems with four or fewer processors.
