Thanks crackhead for this in BPN. Over one year ago Opera's engineers started working on two separate development branches. One of them later became the successful Opera 6, released in December 2001. The latter was a longer project: optimizing Opera's core with the latest and best in standards support and features, while not compromising speed.

Project Presto

This project was dubbed Presto, a term chosen not by accident. In music "presto" denotes rapid speed or "as if by magic," just the way Opera renders Web pages. When you play "presto" you also play it lightly, reflecting on our famously small browser size.

Now Opera's enhanced engine is getting close to release, and you will all soon be able to try out Presto in the new Opera 7 version to be released soon. On this page we will collect some links for you regarding Presto and Opera 7 as we move closer to release.
